Preschool-4th grade students will perform beginning at 6:00 p.m. 
under the direction of Mrs. Davis!

Buy SCRIP!  Support BSS by purchasing Barnes & Noble Gift Cards in the school office prior to attending the book fair.

Students in K-4th grade are to wear their school uniform and Preschool and 
Pre K students should be in Sunday best. All students in Preschool-4th grade will arrive to Barnes & Noble no later than 5:45 . 

Students will perform in the following order: Preschool & PreK, Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade.


Make an evening of it!  Enjoy dinner with your BSS family either before or after you attend the book fair at Buffalo Wild Wings!

Knight News
Congratulations to BSS, recipients of the Piedmont EMC "Bright Ideas" Grant for $1,029.66!
The goal of this grant money is to build a Hydroponic Garden in our STEM Lab expanding the students understanding of plant systems. We hope to learn about hydroponic gardening and build a garden that will support the Blessed Sacrament Church Community Food Pantry.

A special thanks to Mrs. Jill Glenn and the Grant Writing Committee for their hard work over the summer submitting this grant!

Knights of Columbus State Poster Winner
Third grader Devon Stalek's Drug Awareness poster has won first place in the Knights of Columbus state contest.  Congratulations Devon!


Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge Winners
Congratulations to our winners of the 2016 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. Grace Stalek (5th) had the highest number of goals  for the girls. Ty Lagana and David Armstrong (both in 6th) tied for the highest number of goals for the boys. All 1st place students will advance to the district competition held this weekend at Belmont, NC. 


IronKids's Competitor!
Congratulations to first grader Annie Walker!  Annie ran the IronKid's half mile event at the Ironman NC Beach to Battleship race.  Way to go, Annie!
Congrats also to Annie's dad for completing the Ironman competition!

 
Pet Food Drive Success and Halloween Basket Winners!
Thanks to everyone who donated items to our pet supply drive.  It was a very successful fund drive.  Congratulations to our Halloween Basket winners, Christopher Cafasso and Arwen Weske.  Enjoy your treats!





Chess Club
Chess Club begins meeting Wednesday, November 2nd and will meet every other Wednesday through March 8th.  The annual  St. Mary Magdalene School Chess Tournament is March 11th.  Students will meet with Chess Club Advisor, Mrs. Schmitt.

The BSS Swap Shop is open this week in preparation for the change to winter uniform.


Club Knight Mars Garden Donations Requested
Mrs. VanWeest is requesting donations of potting soil, small plants (like succulents) and planter boxes. We would like to work on our Mars gardens  in two weeks  for the letter G.


Art Donations Requested!
Elementary Art Teacher, Rebecca Wetter, needs donations of  fresh clementines,  clean, empty cans and TALL socks for fun fall projects! Also, please consider purchasing a gift card for Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Walmart or another store for additional art supplies for Fall and Winter art projects our elementary students will talk about for years to come! 

Also requesting old paint for a project!

High School Information Session at The Burlington School
Wednesday  Nov. 2nd The Burlington School is hosting an 8th grade Informational Session at 408 W. Davis Street. It is scheduled for  5:45-6:30pm

After the session TBS is having a guest speaker on the documentary The Last Barn Dance beginning at  7pm. Any BSS family is invited to attend and we hope the rising 9th grade families are able to stay once the informational session concludes.

Fall Conferences
Conferences are Monday, November 7 from 4:00p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Thursday, November 10 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with your child's teacher(s).  A parent must attend the conference in order to pick up your child's report card.

Winter Uniforms will begin on Monday, November 14. Please refer to the parent handbook for uniform guidelines, hair and accessories policy.  By now all students should have the new PE shirt .  Thank you for your cooperation.

It's Time for Twos!
Our successful Time for Twos program is back for another year.   Blessed Sacrament School's Time for Twos program is designed as a gentle introduction to school.  Our program encourages children to work in a group, explore new materials, and make age-appropriate development transitions.

Time for Twos meets on Tuesdays for two 12-weeks sessions, one in the Fall (September to December) and one Winter/Spring (January to March). The 45-minute meetings are led by Program Director, Jill Zang Glenn.  Each child must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver

A typical meeting includes an art project, free play, story and music.

Session 1: September 27th/ October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th/ November 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd,/ December 6th, 13th

Session 2:   January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st/ February 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th/ March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

Greetings Blessed Sacrament Community,
 
Just a note to thank you for all your support at Oktoberfest 2016.  I hope that new parents and veterans of the event had as good a time as I did.  This is the H.S.A. 's biggest event of the year for enrichment fundraising.  I am thrilled to have so much support from our BSS families, faculty and staff.  I really do appreciate all you do to make our school the wonderful place that it is.  A special thanks to our event sponsors Carl Wetter Sound, Palmer Generator, Monahan Dental, and our vendors, Bounce-N-More, Stuart's Tents and Events, and Blessed Sacrament Church Knights of Columbus.  I would like to invite your feedback about the event so we can grow it in the coming years so look out for a survey in the next week.

AAU BOYS' BASKETBALL -BISHOP MCGUINNESS (Tryouts moved up to December)
 
Tryouts for the NC Spartans AAU Basketball youngest age group (13U team-7 th  grade and below)  based out of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School will be  Sunday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 11  from  noon-2 p.m.   

Those trying out are encouraged to attend both dates if available but must attend at least one of the two sessions.  The season will not start until after the PECSAA season ends, but the team will be established in December.  The team will play 5 tournaments from March-May.  Four will be local (Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point area) and 1 will be a travel tournament.  Practices will be two weekdays each week at Bishop McGuinness and occasional Sundays from  noon-2. 

The cost for the season is $300 which covers  tournament entry fees, uniforms upkeep and replacement, maintenance, insurance and registration.   Please contact Jeff Stoller-  js@bmhs.us if you plan to try out.  Tryouts for the Spartans 8th grade and high school age teams will be announced soon. For updates on those tryouts, please check  www.ncspartansbasketball.com and Twitter @NCSpartans.
