Knight News
Middle school parents please look in your child's yellow envelope today for additional information about the May field trip.  We've scheduled an IMPORTANT parent info session Tuesday, November 29th from 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. at BSS.

The commitment form and initial non refundable deposit is due that Friday, December 2nd so it is critical that one family member attend the info session.

BSS Knights FIRST LEGO League Team qualifies for State Competition
We are so pleased to have TWO competitive FLL teams representing BSS this school year.  Our BSS Knights FLL team competed for the first time last weekend and placed sixth which qualifies them for the state competition.  The team won first place in the Research Category.  Way to go BSS Knights FLL!

BSS Students Run the Souper 5K
Mary and Timmy Klein from our cross country team participated in the Souper 5K this past weekend.  It was a well attended, charitable event running through the Tanglewood light show!

Catholic Schools Week 2017-Coordinator Needed!
Catholic Schools Week is January 29th-February 4th, 2017. A coordinator is needed to lead a committee and work with Mrs. Hackman to establish the week's activities, coordinate the activities, and assist with marketing Catholic Schools Week to the school, Parish, and local community.  If interested, please contact Mrs. Hackman for further discussion and to review the CSW Marketing Handbook and Planning Guide.

Dear BSS Families,
It is hard to believe that next week is Thanksgiving. As we enter this season let us stop and reflect on the many wonderful things in our lives- our children, family, friends and good health. Let us count our blessings and give thanks for everything God has given us.

Bishop Burbidge
On Tuesday, November 29, Bishop Burbidge will be visiting BSS for the day. He will start the day with Mass and spend the day with us. This will be the last school visit for the Bishop for the diocese since he was transferred to the Diocese of Arlington in Virginia. 

Steps
Thank you for your patience as our front steps underwent construction. The workers did a beautiful job of repairing and lifting them. The new steps enhance the entrance of our school.

It's Time for Twos!
Our successful Time for Twos program is back for another year.   Blessed Sacrament School's Time for Twos program is designed as a gentle introduction to school.  Our program encourages children to work in a group, explore new materials, and make age-appropriate development transitions.

Time for Twos meets on Tuesdays for two 12-weeks sessions, one in the Fall (September to December) and one Winter/Spring (January to March). The 45-minute meetings are led by Program Director, Jill Zang Glenn.  Each child must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver

A typical meeting includes an art project, free play, story and music.

Session 1: Remaining sessions- November 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd,/ December 6th, 13th

Session 2:   January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st/ February 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th/ March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th

AAU BOYS' BASKETBALL -BISHOP MCGUINNESS (Tryouts moved up to December)
 
Tryouts for the NC Spartans AAU Basketball youngest age group (13U team-7 th  grade and below)  based out of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School will be  Sunday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 11  from  noon-2 p.m.   

Those trying out are encouraged to attend both dates if available but must attend at least one of the two sessions.  The season will not start until after the PECSAA season ends, but the team will be established in December.  The team will play 5 tournaments from March-May.  Four will be local (Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point area) and 1 will be a travel tournament.  Practices will be two weekdays each week at Bishop McGuinness and occasional Sundays from  noon-2. 

The cost for the season is $300 which covers  tournament entry fees, uniforms upkeep and replacement, maintenance, insurance and registration.   Please contact Jeff Stoller-  [email protected] if you plan to try out.  Tryouts for the Spartans 8th grade and high school age teams will be announced soon. For updates on those tryouts, please check  www.ncspartansbasketball.com and Twitter @NCSpartans.

Basic Archery Instruction for Youth 
Wednesday, December 28
Ages: 9-12 * 9am - 12noon
Ages: 13-16 * 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina at the Clubhouse (temporary indoor archery range) * 2704 Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, NC 27215

Burlington Recreation & Parks invites youth to experience basic archery at the Lake Mackintosh Park & Marina's Clubhouse.  Participants will be taken through a lesson promoting safety and archery basics encouraging a focus on performing a proper shot: featuring an introduction to archery, safety on the range, using a string bow, and 11 steps of archery success through the NASP curriculum.  Space is limited; all participants must pre-register and complete a registration form with liability waiver the day of the program.  Archery equipment will be provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's North Carolina Hunter Education Program through an enhancement federal grant from the Pittman-Roberson Act.  Participants may bring a water bottle with their name on it and a healthy snack.  Please wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. The Burlington Youth Council (BYC) is an organization made of young men and women that dedicate themselves to community service projects and bring youth from all over the county together to help better our community.  The BYC members are made up of 6th-12th graders from Alamance County, as well as the home school community. Students must attend meetings and community projects regularly. The BYC has also taken trips to the Carolina Panthers game and a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game.
