Knight News
First & Second Trimester Middle School STREAM Award Winners
Congratulations to sixth graders Ella Kate Porfilio (first trimester) and Caden Troutman (second trimester) who are recipients of the Middle School Excellence in STREAM awards for the first and second trimesters of the 2016-17 school year.
International Aviation Art Contest Winners
Since 1989 the  Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) has sponsored the International Aviation Art Contest to challenge young people to illustrate the importance of aviation through art. Demonstrating the impact of aeronautics through an interactive, fun medium such as art motivates youth of all ages to become more familiar with aeronautics, engineering and science.

The U.S. portion of the contest is sanctioned by the  National Aeronautic Association (NAA), managed by the NASAO Center for Aviation Research and Education and sponsored by  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - PrescottKen Cook Co., the  Federal Aviation Administration, and the  National Coalition for Aviation and Space Education with additional support from NASAO members.

Children between the ages of 6 and 17 participate in the contest. The 2017 theme is, "Beyond the Clouds" and participants were asked to create a work of art that celebrates the adventures and excitement only available in that special place beyond the clouds.

Out of 1,000 entries, Blessed Sacrament School is proud to announce that six students recieved honorable mention in the contest!

Congratulations to Will Solari (2nd grade), Katie Kimrey (3rd grade), Saul Cano-Solis (2nd grade), Callie Bryand (3rd grade), Josalyn Tyler (3rd grade), and Annie Walker (2nd grade).

BSS YMCA Volleyball Team
If your child is interested and available  on Tuesday Evenings, we would love to have them on our BSS Gold  Volleyball Team. Practices will be scheduled once all the teams are assigned. This year's team will be made up of 5th through 8th grades (the 5th grade students will be playing up a league).

Dr. Tom Arcaro has agreed to coach the team this year and Ana Villalpando will be helping out as her schedule allows.   I will provide back up to the coaches if there are schedule conflicts.  Although BSS will not have a organized team in the Silver league we encourage any young students interested in learning  volleyball to sign up.  My own children have played int he league for 3 years and have always had a good experience with the coaches the YMCA provides.

HERE is the registration form that needs to be completed and submitted to the YMCA by  March 3, 2017.    Please write  BSS Gold  in Bold on the top of the form for all 5th through 8th grade students.  In addition, please send me your preferred email and cell phone number ( jglenn@bssknights.org) if your child plans to play. This will help the YMCA ensure all students who want to be on the BSS team are appropriately placed.  I will also put together an email list and cell phone list for our coaches to utilize throughout the season.

It is a great day to be a Knight!  Let's play some  volleyball!

Dear BSS Families,

Today marks the beginning of the Lent.  Pope Francis' 2017 Lenten message tell us that "Lent is the favorable season for renewing our encounter with Christ, living in his word, in the sacraments and in our neighbor." During this time let us take the time to reflect and pray for each other.
