Knight News
BSS a second time recipient of the Bright Ideas Grant
Blessed Sacrament School is once again a recipient of the Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation Bright Ideas Grant! Last year we used the funds from the grant to purchase our hydroponic tower. Students spent the year studying, planting, and learning what grew best in a hydroponic tower. Herbs and vegetables were harvested multiple times and donated to the Little Portion Food Pantry for distribution in the community.

This year's grant will allow our students to continue the hydroponic garden project allowing us to purchase new seeds and supplies. In addition, students will integrate this project throughout all their classes as they develop healthy recipes for using the herbs.

Students will research recipes to use with the herbs grown in Science, create recipe cards in Art and calculate their measurements in Math class. They'll write the instructions to be easily read in Language Arts class, and translate on the other side into Spanish. These reproduced and laminated cards can be attached to the herbs and handed out during food distribution from the Little Portion Food Pantry.

Representatives from Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation came Monday and presented us with our official grant award!
