Eighth Grade Pay It Forward Project
Each year eighth grade students receive $10 to use to design a "Pay It Forward" project.  Some students work together while others choose an independent project. Jessica Velazquez-Hernandez, Daniella Urgiles, Abigail May, and Samantha Young held a bake sale after Mass last weekend and raised $349 for Paws for Life.

"I chose to help out with the Animal Sanctuary in Mebane with my friends because animals are sometimes forgotten.  It feels great to help out and know that you did something to help a life."  Jessica

Great job Knights!

From the Principal's Desk
Dear BSS Families,

On Monday and Tuesday of next week, the AdvancED Team will be at BSS to observe how the students learn and give us feedback on their observations. In addition, parents and students were asked to give us feedback on our school.

These are the results of the surveys.
The surveys that were given to all stakeholders of our school were favorable.  The staff's total score of 4.32 indicates a high level of satisfaction. Some of our highest scores were in the section of Governance and Leadership. A score of 4.73 was given on the Leaders Holding Themselves Accountable for Student Learning.  Teaching and Assessing for Learning earned an average score of 4.2
The parents' survey average was 4.33. Areas of highest satisfaction were: School's Purpose, Goals for Planning Improving Student Learning, and the High Expectations for Students in all classes. They responded that our school provides a safe learning environment with a score of 4.71

Overall, the student survey average was 4.30, with the highest scores in the elementary level with a score of 4.73.  Reviewing the scores, the students believe that:
-My teacher makes them think.
-My school has books for me to read.
-In my school my principal and teachers want every student to learn.
-My principal and teachers tell children when they do a good job.
-In my school, a high quality of education is offered.
- In my school, the principal and teachers have high expectations of me.

Based on a 5 point scale (except early and elementary grades), please click here survey results charts (3).docx to view the results of all the surveys given.

Thank you again for your continued support and prayers as our school undergoes this process.

Classroom Connections
Fourth Grade attends Science Alive
Fourth graders recently attended Science Alive at Old Salem.  While at Old Salem our students learned that t he Moravians of Salem had an advanced understanding of science and technology: agriculture, astronomy, botany, surveying, architecture and manufacturing. Science was a tool used to solve the problems of everyday life. The American scientific "can-do" spirit led to many revolutionary discoveries and inventions.

Second Grade Dinosaur Day!
Last Friday second graders held the culminating event of their weeks long dinosaur research project.  Students chose a dinosaur, conducted research, made a story map, wrote and edited and rewrote their three paragraph essay, converted drafts into a final copy in cursive, drew their dinosaur, and created a poster display.

On Friday students answered questions and shared information about their research. Students also worked with Mrs. Wetter in Art class to design dinosaur related projects.  Dino Day concluded with a fun party full of dinosaur themed snacks!
