Multiplication Masters
Congratulations to third graders Lydia Andress, Matthew Johnston, and Leah Kefauver for becoming Third Grade Multiplication Masters!  Way to master your facts!


Math-A-Thon Winners
Congratulations to the third grade and seventh grade classes! 
The third grade had the highest participation for elementary (25%) and seventh grade for middle school (21%)!   Third grade will receive a cupcake party and seventh grade will have an ice cream party!

The whole school will get an afternoon of fun on May 8th (Just Dance and the hot dog cart) since we reached our goal and for all they have done throughout the year supporting our various service projects.

Total raised - $3,153   
This covers two full days of chemo for a child fighting cancer!

Student Council Election Details
Today students in 4th-7th grade were given details regarding the 2017-18 Student Council Elections.  Following are details and important dates.

Officers are selected from the following grade levels:
President: rising eighth grade only
Vice President: rising seventh or eighth grade
Secretary: rising fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grade
Treasurer: rising fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth grade

Student Council officers must:
1. Maintain a "B" average in schoolwork.
2. Follow the rules and regulations of the school.
3. Be a role model for others in scholarship and behavior.
4. Be willing to take an active part in decision-making.
5. Be willing to accept responsibility for accomplishment of jobs decided upon by the council.

When campaigning, candidates must adhere to the following rules:
1. No more than four posters or banners.
2. Posters may be no longer than standard poster board.
3. Banners may be no larger than those printed on standard computer paper.
4. No bribes for votes, such as candy, pennies, etc.
5. No derogatory remarks about opposing candidates.
6. No campaign promises that cannot be kept, such as banning uniforms.

Candidates may select a campaign manager from anyone in 4th-8th grades.

Candidates and their managers will make a short speech to students in grades 4 to 8.  These speeches need to be approved by Mrs. Kearney by Tuesday, May 22nd.  

Voting will be by secret ballot in grades 4-7.  Mrs. Kearney will supervise the counting of ballots.

Time Line for Elections
1. By Thursday, May 11th-Declare the office you are pursuing and select your campaign manager.  Notify Mrs. Kearney in writing by 12:00 noon.

2. Monday, May 15th through Thursday, May 18th-Campaign Week  
Speeches need to be given to Mrs. Kearney by Monday, May 22nd for approval!

3. Wednesday, May 24th-Speeches will be presented to grades 4-8 after flag raising.

4. Wednesday, May 24th-Voting by grades 4-7 will take will take place after the speeches.  

5. Winners will be announced at the end of the Election Day.  ALL CAMPAIGN POSTERS MUST BE REMOVED BY THE END OF THE DAY, Wednesday, May 24th.

2017 MAKER FAIRE BURLINGTON

This year's Maker Faire takes place during our school spring break.  Mrs. Ehmig and Mrs. Hackman still plan to have a display to represent Blessed Sacrament School.  Any student that is in town is welcome to join us to speak to their class' "Growing on Mars" project.  The hydroponic garden will be on site!

Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of BSS meet us for coffee Monday mornings at The Blend!  Join us beginning at 7:30 a.m. for a complimentary small coffee and conversation.

I am very proud to announce that BSS received accreditation approval from the site team. According to the Index of Education Quality (IEQ) results indicate BSS is performing well BEYOND acceptable ranges as compared to expected criteria as well as other institutions in the AdvancED network. This chart compares our scores with the national average.

AlumKNIGHT News
AlumKnight Katie Wright has been elected to join Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest honor society. Katie is also a member of Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society), Eta Sigma Phi (Classics Honor Society), and Phi Alpha Theta (National History Honor Society). Katie graduates from Loyola University - Maryland in May with majors in Classical Civilizations and History and a minor in English.

In the fall, Katie will attend Florida State University, where she will pursue a Master's Degree in Classical Archaeology. 

Kindergarten Orientation
Wednesday, May 17th from 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.- NEW DATE!
An opportunity for rising Kindergarten students, prospective rising Kindergarten students, and their parents to experience an afternoon in Kindergarten.  Meet Mrs. Avery, current Kindergarten students, and current Kindergarten parents while students enjoy time in Kindergarten centers.

Spring Box Tops Olympics
Who will bring home the gold, silver, and bronze this semester? Our Box Tops Olympics has begun!  Send in your box tops labeled with the student grade and student name and drop them in the pink mailbox near the front entrance or directly to the classroom teacher.

 
The HSA Board and Chairs will meet the first Tuesday of each month at 2:00 pm and ALL parents are welcome at these meetings.  Meetings are held in the conference room on the second floor.  The next meeting is Tuesday, May 2nd.

OLG 5K Run
This is your LAST CHANCE to register for the OLG 5K Run/Walk, Doggie Dash, Kids Run BEFORE the rate increases on Wednesday, April 12th. This is also your LAST CHANCE to guarantee a t-shirt for the 5K and/or the Kids Run. Don't delay!!  Register HERE.  

Sports Physical Clinic
A free sports physical clinic will be held May 10th from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  This will be held at the Kernodle Clinic West location at 1234 Huffman Mill Road in Burlington. If you are interested, please email me so I can get a form to your student. Your athletes name must be on both sides and a parent must sign the form. Your student will not be able to receive their physical if it has not been signed. Thank you-Coach Eggleston

BSS has two teams playing in the YMCA Gold League.  Head to the YMCA and cheer on Team Arcaro and Team Glenn this season!


Support our Burlington Recreation and Parks Biddy Soccer Teams!
This season our biddy soccer team grew so much that we now have two teams! Head over to Joe Davidson Park and cheer on both the Blessed Sacrament School Animals and the Blessed Sacrament School Knights!

Mini Track Meet  Sunday , April, 30 at Bishop, arrive at  12:30  meet starts promptly at  1:00
All track members can run multiple events against other teams! Parents, please sign up to help.

PECSAA Track Meet,  Friday, May 12 , at Bishop
Assignments will be given 1-2 weeks before the meet. This is our final and ONLY scored meet. Not all children will have an event and some may be asked to run a grade above or 2 events so that we can gain points. It is important that we know now if your child CANNOT be available. BSS is in charge of this event so we hope that you will all attend and volunteer in some capacity. Its a super fun and exciting night!

Each athlete also needs an "Athletics Permission and Emergency Form". This form was in the packet from the office that was sent home in May, so if you turned it in, you are all set.  It can also be found here -
