Merle Teetaert has been actively involved with Pallium Canada since our origins in 2001. She was part of a group that travelled from Manitoba to Calgary to review the early materials for the Rural Weekend Course, which is now known as the Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) course. "At that point in time, the course was very much in the making," said Merle. "It was exciting. We wanted to bring the course back to Dauphin, Manitoba. We were doing a lot of planning and sorting out timing and presentation leads."
Merle continued her engagement with Pallium by facilitating numerous LEAP courses around Manitoba and Saskatchewan. She also lit fires amongst her colleagues, convincing others to also become LEAP Facilitators. More recently, Merle has been involved in curriculum development for the newly released LEAP Long-Term Care course and peer-reviewed a number of Pallium's LEAP curriculums.
Merle's passion for palliative care and involvement with Pallium Canada has been driven by her choice to make a difference. "The palliative care world is a very small, tight group dedicated to improving end-of-life care," she said. "It has been a privilege to work with these brilliant, hardworking professionals."
As of June 2016, Merle has decided to retire. Pallium Canada cannot thank you enough for your immense contributions. Enjoy the lake, your garden, and four grandchildren!
