The Lanterman Coalition agrees the California IDD community system must have a 10% increase to stop the current system collapse...

The Lanterman Coalition, consisting of the 19 statewide organizations of the California Developmental Services system, has urged the Brown administration to stop the current state of collapse of our system before the harm to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families becomes irreparable. We told the governor that the IDD system must have a 10% increase to stop the current crisis from continuing to escalate and to begin to stabilize the community system.  (Letter to the Governor)

Hope, Stop, Reinvigorate
We must build a system that gives hope to families for a bright future.  We have to stop the "new normal" that is causing a collapse now before we lose important supports and services forever.  And we must reinvigorate the passion of our renowned advocacy movement.

Steady Advocacy
Today your legislators officially began the 2015 - 2016 session and they're now on recess until January 5, 2015.  As they get settled in it's a great time to begin to get acquainted (or re-acquainted) with them.  And even better for them to get to know you and the stories from our community.  This is a marathon process, not a sprint, so we have to stay steady and focused.  Don't let the complexities and difficulty bother you.  We're all in this situation together and we'll get out of it if we stay together all the way through.  If you need any help along the way feel free to contact any of our organizations.  Remember you're not alone - you're with a quarter million people in our community.

Focused, Not Isolated
Each member of the Lanterman Coalition is fully committed to this campaign.  While we realize this will not permanently fix the problems in our system, it is a critically-important first step.  We also know there are several other threats to the community system for people with IDD and to the state's safety net system that supports not only people with all kinds of disabilities, but, families, seniors, children, and people in poverty throughout California.  The Lanterman Coalition members will continue their work in other community services coalitions and on other structural problems in the IDD system but this campaign will remain singularly focused on correcting the disproportionate divestment from the promise of the Lanterman Act.

Stay Active and Engaged
We've set up a variety of ways to keep you involved and engaged with one another using Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.  We also encourage policy professionals to join in on the conversations as we all support one another in our challenges and work to change the system to revitalize the true intention of the Lanterman Act.
