Pastor Brian & Myra Shealy

Shealy Added
To Church Staff

Brian Shealy, who has spent 28 years pastoring churches in California and Florida, has been added to the Riverbend staff as a part-time pastor.  His primary roles will be taking the lead in planning and starting a seminary and Bible college at Riverbend and serving as a special assistant to Senior Pastor Scott Menez.

Pastor Brian, set to preach Sunday (Aug. 13) at Riverbend, will serve as Academic Dean of the soon-to-be-named seminary. The goal is to begin classes during the 2018-19 academic year.

"I am excited to join the staff of Riverbend to help expand the reach of the ministry for the glory of Christ as we train and send out pastors to reach the world and shepherd God's people," said Shealy.  "I look forward to God doing immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."

Shealy has lots of seminary experience. While pastoring in California, he taught for eight years at The Master's Seminary (headed by John MacArthur) and eight years at The Cornerstone Seminary, where he also served as Academic Dean.  He is currently pursuing his PhD from Clarks Summit University in Pennsylvania.

"Riverbend has had a long-standing vision, fostered first by Pastor Roy (Hargrave), to start a seminary/Bible college," said Menez. "This is my goal, as well, and we have taken a pro-active step with Brian.  We're also hoping Dwight Brown, a great friend who has already been a tremendous help in the planning stages, will join us once he finishes a seminary commitment in Colorado."

Shealy, who most recently pastored Fellowship Bible Church in Mango, Fla., is a former Air Force B-52 Electronic Warfare Officer who married a missionary while stationed in Guam. He and wife Myra have eight children: Savannah, Seth (Dean of Students at Riverbend Academy), Adam, Ali, Lindsay, Bri, Luke and Caleb.

From Summer Harsch, Children's Director

Due to the number of people unable to make the Aug. 4 training meeting, we have changed the date.  We are now offering four dates for you to choose from.  I am encouraging all volunteers/teachers to attend ONE of the four dates.

The four dates (all Wednesdays, 5:15-6:15 p.m.):
Aug. 9, 16, 23, 30.

We will meet in Room 184. Each meeting will be the same, so plan to attend just ONE of them.

Please check your calendar and let me know the date you can attend. Register at the check-in desk Sunday or Wednesday, or click here.

'Cackle, Cackle'

No, it's not Big Bird or Chicken Man or the Bird of Paradise. It's actually Riverbender Blake Knaebel.

Blake was playing the role of an elusive chicken during the church's recent Summer Camp in Black Mountain, N.C.

Members of the youth challenge groups had to catch him and tag him as one item of the items to complete on their competition checklist.

"Blake was awesome in that role!" said Youth Minister Aaron Johnsen. "He was one of the big hits of the camp."

Dear Riverbend Family:
Thank you so much for the outpouring of cards, calls and food since my dad, Rev. Pershing E. Pitre, went to be with his Lord and Savior. He loved his church and the Word of God his pastors preached and the God-honoring music, both old and new, that Pastor Rick and Heyward provided.  Thank you for welcoming him into our church family when he came to live with us and for making him feel wanted.
--In Christ alone, Kaye Johnson
