Dear Friend of Rescue,
Wow!! 2014 was a great year for homeless hounds! During the past twelve months more than 700 lucky hounds found homes of their own thanks to ABTCR.

ABTCR is currently reviewing the results of our 2014 efforts and our hope is to continue to work with all hound lovers while encouraging and empowering our fosters & volunteers to make sure homeless hounds get the chance they deserve to have a family of their own.

ABTCR appreciates everyone's support and we hope that you will continue to give us a hand so that together we can make a lot of good things happen for homeless hounds in 2015!

 Keeping your Coonhound happy!
Here are a few suggestions for keeping things running smoothly around your house! These simple tips can be incorporated into your routine everyday and they can help your hound be the ideal companion you long for. These three essential elements will go a long way towards making your hound happy. And we all know that when our hounds are happy, EVERYBODY is happy!
Exercise: Walk your hound at a brisk speed at least 45 minutes a day.If you cannot do this yourself, find someone who can do it for you - a grandchild, a student, a friend.Dogs have a lot of energy. Now, there are different levels of energy in the dog world. These go from extremely high to very low. Depending on your dog's level it will need more or less walking.

Structure: A dog needs boundaries and limitations. If the dog is not given boundaries and limitations, THEY will give you boundaries and limitations. So everyday, take the time to some simple obedience work with your hound. You will find that not only do they enjoy the challenge, but they will also respect you for it!
cali
Affection: Many people shower their dogs with affection. There is nothing wrong with that. That is why you have a dog, right? But make sure that the equation is not lopsided. To ensure that hound is leading a balanced life, provide them with exercise & structure accompanied by affection. Its a winning combination!

With a little help from our friends,

 ABTCR makes a BIG difference!

By now, we all know that American Black & Tan Coonhound Rescue saves coonhounds. Still, some of you may think how hard can it really be? You take a a few extra walks, wash a couple of extra bowls or heaven forbid, clean up the accidental pit stop on the living room rug. But still some of you aren't swayed and you wonder, how hard can it be? What you may not have considered is the emotional cost that ABTCR volunteers expend in an effort to help save a hound's life. Like this hound.

ABTCR has named him Angel's Envy. He was found with a logging chain attached to his neck. The other end was chained to a tree more than a mile into a remote pine forest in rural South Carolina. His neck, face & chest were covered with puncture wounds. His teeth we filed down. His entire skeletal frame was painfully evident. He barely weighed 35 pounds. And still, he wagged his tail and kissed the hands of those that released him. Local rescue volunteers reached out to ABTCR at 4:30 pm Tuesday, January 27. Twenty four hours later, he was safe in the home of an ABTCR foster family. Anthony & Adrianna Hurst rearranged their lives and together, they made sure that he had safe place to lay his tired bones.  ABTCR shared Angel Envy's story with the Coonhound Nation and the overwhelming response we received paved the way for his journey to wellness. He has seen a vet and his medical needs have been assessed. He is receiving the TLC he deserves because ABTCR & our supporters stepped up to make certain that it happened.

ABTCR has a lot of friends that support our efforts, both emotionally and financially. ABTCR is overwhelmed with your generosity and we want to thank everyone for supporting  our effort to ensure that this boy and all the other hounds we rescue, get the medical care they need!

If you are interested in giving this a shot,
we really need folks to transport & foster our hounds
while we are looking for their forever home.

On behalf of all the hounds,

ABTCR wants to say Thank You to everyone,

for everything you do to help make a difference.

I love a hound!
