As 2017 draws to a close, we at THO wish you and your loved ones a happy and relaxing holiday season.
 
This year, we have been hard at work on programs to facilitate constructive discussion on the U.S.-Turkey bilateral relationship.
 
In 2017, we:
 
  • Organized 25 events, including panels, roundtables, and teleconferences;


  • Produced 14Exclusive Insight” video interviews with experts on issues like Turkey’s approach to the Syrian refugee crisis, the U.S.’ Middle East policy, and Turkey’s economic outlook;
 
  • Continued our outreach to Congressional offices; and

 
We are committed to furthering discussion on U.S.-Turkey relations in 2018, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year!
ANNUAL REVIEW PREVIEW: U.S.-TURKEY RELATIONS IN 2017
As 2017 comes to a close, we’re putting together our “ Review of U.S.-Turkey Relations in 2017 ,” the latest in an annual report series documenting the year’s developments in U.S.-Turkey ties across THO’s six issue areas: security, humanitarian aid, economy, energy, education, and technology.

We’ll be releasing our full review in January 2018, but you can get an early look at some of its content in our recently published preview, which is available on our website .

THO Advisory Board member named to editorial board of International Journal of Turkish Studies
Congratulations to Dr. Michael Gunter, THO Advisory Board member and professor at Tennessee Technological University, for being named to the editorial board of the International Journal of Turkish Studies, which was founded by respected Turkish historian Dr. Kemal Karpat.
THO organizes private roundtable with Foreign Minister Cavusoglu and Syrian-American organizations
On December 21, 2017, THO organized a private roundtable discussion with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in New York City exclusively for the Syrian American Council (SAC) and Syrian American Medical Society Foundation (SAMS). Foreign Minister Cavusoglu, who was in New York for the UN General Assembly’s resolution on the Jerusalem decision, listened to SAC and SAMS Board Members’ concerns and recommendations on a range of issues. Minister Cavusoglu also shared Turkey’s short- and long-term policy objectives.  

THO Executive Director Yenal Kucuker introduced the delegation and informed Minister Cavusoglu about THO’s ongoing cooperation with SAC and SAMS, particularly on humanitarian aid-related issues and activities.

On December 19, THO hosted a teleconference on “ The Jerusalem Decision: The View from Washington, Tel Aviv, and Ankara .”

The teleconference was moderated by Dr. Mark Meirowitz (Assistant Professor of Humanities at SUNY Maritime College; Chair of THO’s Advisory Board) and featured the following speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Cagri Erhan – Rector, Altinbas University
  • Dr. Raphael Danziger – Senior consultant and Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, AIPAC
  • Moran Stern – Adjunct Lecturer at the Center for Jewish Civilization, Georgetown University
