THO hosted a roundtable discussion on prospects for U.S.-Turkey relations in 2018
On  Thursday, February 15 , THO hosted an off-the-record r oundtable on “ Prospects for U.S.-Turkey Relations in 2018 ,” the same day of a critical meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in Ankara following heightened tensions between the two NATO allies over threats of military engagement in northern Syria.

The discussion featured insights from Ambassador James Jeffrey (former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey), Jennifer Miel (Executive Director of the U.S.-Turkey Business Council at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and former Congressman Edward Whitfield (U.S. Representative for Kentucky, 1995-2016). The discussion was moderated by Audrey Williams (THO Program Officer) and attended by representatives of academia, think tanks, NGOs, and government agencies.
THO President Ali Cinar was quoted in a VOA article on U.S-Turkey relations
In a recent VOA article titled “ Turkey nationalism on upsurge again ,” THO President Ali Cinar provided the following comments on the current status of U.S.-Turkey relations.

“The main reason for the anti-U.S. attitude in Turkey is the anger against Washington for not extraditing U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen and for supporting the Syrian Kurdish militia group YPG in the war against Islamic State. Everybody in Turkey, both government and opposition, are sensitive about these two issues and they are in consensus. So it's wrong to see this as AK Party's [the ruling party in Turkey] cause and this is the biggest mistake some other countries are making,"
