Building on conversations and reflections within EDGE's Global Engagement Lab and following discussions with civil society leaders and a broad range of foundation members and allies there, EDGE's next annual gathering will be organized in Brazil in early April 2019. We are now very pleased to announce that  Ana Valeria Arajo, who has served as the Executive Director of the Brazil Human Rights Fund since 2006, and  Jovanna Garcia Soto, Grassroots International's Program Officer for Latin America (and GEL graduate!), will serve as co-Chairs for our gathering. With their support next year's event will be organized not as a traditional conference but as a "Funder-Movement 'Encontro'" focusing on systemic alternatives, and on efforts to build "systemic change philanthropy" to support such efforts worldwide. Details to follow soon!

During the first week of July, La Bergerie de Villarceaux,   an organic farm close to Paris owned by the Charles Léopold Mayer Foundation, welcomed  EDGE Europe friends and members for the Annual  Retreat. Participants were involved in a series of activities and discussions aimed at building community, co-learning and changing philanthropy. As greatly summarized by our new Board of Directors Co-chair Amanda Gigler: "Participating in EDGE is one of the space that gives me juice".

Early the same week, La Bergerie also hosted the first workshop on "Organizing Young People with Wealth or Class Privilege in Europe". Following a first conference call and the decision to launch a six months praxis group process, eight young people with wealth and class privileges, supported by EDGE members, decided to participate to explored the possibility of creating a European network and to discuss on issues related to white privileges and inequality.

Report on the EDGE Retreat will be online soon. Stay tuned!

L ast April, New Orleans hosted the EDGE Funders Alliance Conference. More than two hundred foundation members and allies accepted an invitation as our  short opening film had it, to " Come to the Edge " to discuss and strategies on climate justice, human trafficking, shifting power, racial justice, indigenous rights, participatory philanthropy, human rights defenders, urban systemic change, and many other systemic alternatives.

"Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center"

Many thanks to Luciana Nemeth for her great commitment and efforts organizing our communications strategies over the last few years. We'll miss her but are happy that she's moved full time to devoting herself to her other passion, in her new role as Americas Regional Coordinator with the Global TB Caucus. We know she'll stay in touch and we wish her all the best in her new endeavors.
