Market Updates
Vendor News
----------------------
It's another exciting week at the farmers market, especially with possible sunshine and mid-60's in the forecast. Big B Farm is set to return for the season, and that means time for Big boxes of fresh produce and Big smiles and conversation while you shop.

red potatoes Fresh from the fields down in Junction City, Sweet Leaf Farm will have their first dig of new potatoes. Roast those up with some pasture raised pork spare ribs from Deck Family Farm (on special for $12/pack) and you've got a true farmers market feast in the works.

If spring allergies or this ongoing rain has your immune system feeling a bit down, then a visit to our markets' newest vendor, Fire Brew, is in order. Val hand crafts a variety of apple cider vinegar-based tonics infused with nutrient dense ingredients (many of which are sourced from farmers in Oregon and Washington) to boost your immunity all year long.

We also welcome Naked Acres Farm, Stoneboat Farm, Ken & June's Hazelnuts, Dragonfly Forge,  2 Towns Ciderhouse  and House Spirits Distillery  back for the week as well.

See you Saturday at the market!
Asparagus Recipes
That's right, asparagus season is here! ProFarm Produce and Maryhill Orchards have started their seasons at Hollywood Farmers Market with fresh asparagus. In order to get the most out of this short-seasoned vegetable, s ee below for a few tasty and simple asparagus recipes.

Pasta with Asparagus, Lemon, and Egg
Pasta and asparagus dressed with a light, lemony sauce makes a quick vegetarian dinner.

Ingredients:
Salt and pepper
1 bunch asparagus, ends trimmed
2 tablespoons butter
2 scallions, minced
zest of 1 lemon
1 egg
3/4 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
12 ounces spaghetti or other pasta
handful fresh mint leaves

Directions:
1. Put a pot of salted water on to boil. Meanwhile, slice asparagus in half lengthwise, then cut diagonally into 2-inch pieces.
2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add scallions and cook until wilted, about one minute. Add asparagus and ¼ cup water. Cover pan, and cook until asparagus is tender, 3 to 5 minutes.
3. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together egg, lemon zest, and ¼ cup cheese. Season with pepper. Cook pasta until al dente, reserving ½ cup pasta water before draining. Return pasta to pot and immediately stir in egg until pasta is coated; thin as needed with pasta water. Stir in asparagus and mint leaves. Divide among bowls and top with remaining Parmesan cheese.

Roasted Asparagus and Radishes
Once you roast radishes, you'll never go back. This side dish makes a great addition to roasted chicken or salmon.

Ingredients:
1 bunch asparagus, ends trimmed, and halved (about 1½ pounds)
1 bunch radishes, greens discarded or reserved for another use, trimmed and halved
coarse salt and pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425. In a large bowl, toss the asparagus and radishes with olive oil; season to taste with salt and pepper. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet and roast until tender, tossing once halfway through cooking time, about 15 minutes.

Deep Roots Farm
Seeking Donations
A true child of HFM, Arissa (daughter of Kimberly at Deep Roots Farm), is asking for our help. Arissa has been a frequent bell ringer, and now staffs the stall each week with her family.

Arissa's Destination Imagination team, the Corvallis Masqueteers,  are fundraising for their trip to the Global Finals in Knoxville, TN. They are partnered with ARC hosting a clothing drive and are accepting any gently used clothing, bags, shoes and household fabrics. If you have those to donate folks can drop them at the Deep Roots Farm stand on May 6th.

They are also accepting donations of empty, refundable cans and bottles, and those also can be dropped at the Deep Roots Farm stand.

Thank you for supporting our farmers market community!
