Dear Loyal Reader,

We have two items this month that we think you will find of special interest.

First, we're delighted to be able to share with you not two, not three, but eleven chapters from our upcoming Gideon Crew novel, THE LOST ISLAND, which will be published on August 5th. In this opening sequence of the book, Gideon is tasked with stealing a page of the priceless Book of Kells from the J.P. Morgan Library in New York City. There's just one little problem: the museum's security is so formidable that it is impossible to break.

You can find the chapters here.

In other news, we recently received a note from Agent Pendergast. In it, he apologized for his curtness during the interview we had with him in the Palm Court of the Plaza last month. To quote from his note: "The only excuse I can give is that, due to certain recent events, I have not been myself of late. As a result, I am deeply sorry for any discourtesy on my part."

We can certainly appreciate the reasons why he has not been himself: those 'recent events' to which he alludes are the subject of our next Pendergast story, BLUE LABYRINTH, which will be published in November. What Pendergast endured was beyond horrific. For that reason, we accept his apology on our behalf and (we hope) on behalf of our readers as well. We are happy to report that, by way of recompense, he has agreed to answer another set of questions--this time in a sincere fashion--at a future date.

More to come!

With our best wishes,

Doug & Linc

Links we recommend

The new, best-selling anthology, FaceOff, edited by David Baldacci, to which we contributed a (rather shocking) story about Pendergast.

The Dark and Bloody Guide to Florence: From the Monsters of the Past to the Monster of Florence. Doug helped create this offbeat ebook guide to Florence, Italy, which takes the visitor far beyond the usual tourist-postcard view of the city. Murder and mayhem at every street-corner going back 2,000 years; not for the faint of heart.

A (small number) of signed copies remain of Doug's latest solo book, The Kraken Project.

Doug's book, Cities of Gold, now available as a $5.99 ebook with over a hundred new photographs.
