A Message from the President & CEO

If you're like me, this warm weather is getting you ready for spring. And if you're thinking spring, you're probably thinking about Lupus Awareness Month in May and the first two Illinois Lupus Walks.

May and the Illinois Lupus Walks are a great way to get the word out about lupus. Every year, thousands come out to walk and raise money for their efforts. Every time a participant emails a friend inviting a donation is an opportunity to increase awareness about lupus. With over 2,000 walkers every year, that's THOUSANDS MORE who are educated about lupus.

If you haven't been to an Illinois Lupus Walk before, don't miss out on this fun and friendly event. We have four walks to choose from:

Funds raised from walks go directly toward out mission in Illinois - meaning LSI doesn't charge for any of our programs and services. That means the upcoming educational event Lupus & the Blood teleconference on March 9th is FREE to registered participants. Don't miss this opportunity.

Walks also funded the Empowering Lupus Patients educational event on Chicago's South Side last month. The event included two presentations - Lupus and the Workplace and Lupus and Legal Issues. Over forty people attended the event. If you weren't able to attend, you can download the handouts from our website here.

Funds raised from the walks enable the LSI to work on unique opportunities to increase awareness about lupus. The LSI worked with Context Media, a health information provider, on videos about lupus. The videos will air in doctor's waiting rooms across the country. LSI is not compensated financially however we do own a copy of the finished product. When you get an opportunity, take a look at these videos on our YouTube channel here.

These videos are one example of how every step taken at the Illinois Lupus Walks results in great strides towards our mission.

Thank you.

Together we make a difference.

News You Can Use
When should I tell my employer I have lupus?

If you have a chronic and unpredictable illness like lupus, telling your employer can be challenging.

Legally, you are not required to tell your employer about lupus.

If you are working and become too sick to continue working, you may be able to take advantage of the Family Medical Leave Act.
