A Message from the President & CEO

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make Lupus Awareness Month a success.  The Northern Suburbs and Southern Suburbs Lupus Walks were part of our Lupus Awareness Month activities and we are happy to report, both events were very successful.  There are 2 more walks this year - the Western Suburbs Lupus Walk on August 12th and the Chicago Lupus Walk on September 24th.  Registration is open and we have some fantastic incentive prizes for folks raising $100+.

Funds raised at the Illinois Lupus Walks goes directly towards our mission in Illinois.  We are able to offer all of our programs and services at NO COST thanks to the hard work of our Walkers.  Like the upcoming Western Suburbs Educational Event on Saturday, July 29th.  This year's event will include 2 presentations:
  • Immunizations in Patients with Lupus, presented by Dr. Ailda Nika and
  • Heart & Lupus, presented by Dr. Juan Schmukler

Registration is FREE (thanks to our amazing Lupus Walkers!) and open - click here for more information and to register.

The LSI Junior Board hosted an event during Lupus Awareness Month.  You can see the wrap up here - thanks to all the Jr. Board members who worked so hard to make this event a success.

There's an important opportunity to let your voice be heard on the national level.  The Lupus PFDD Meeting is a history-making project that includes a meeting called "Lupus: Patient Voices."  This very important effort is a tremendous opportunity for individuals with lupus to contribute to lupus drug development by sharing how the disease affects their daily lives and their thoughts on current and future treatments.

You can read more about the project here.

Our Lupus Charity Runners team in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is in full swing!  It's hard to believe that the marathon is only 4 months away.  We have 15 people on our team so far.  We are still accepting lottery runners on the team - if you know someone interested please let us know.

Running a marathon - 26.2 miles - is an incredible accomplishment.  To run that distance in honor of someone you love with lupus is truly inspiring.  We want to thank all of our Lupus Charity Runners for their commitment to our mission. You can read about one of our runners here.

We hope to see you at an LSI event in the near future.

Together we make a difference.

National Meeting on Lupus Drug Development
Lupus PFDD Meeting

The national lupus patient advocacy community is excited to announce that people with lupus will have the chance to be part of a history-making project that includes a meeting called Lupus: Patient Voices on September 25 in the Washington, DC area.  This very important effort is a tremendous opportunity for individuals with lupus to contribute to lupus drug development by sharing how the disease affects their daily lives and their thoughts on current and future treatments.

If you have lupus or are the parent of a child with lupus, we urge you to make your voice heard by sharing your lupus experience and what matters most to you when it comes to lupus drugs.

Lupus Awareness Month Follow Up
Unique Awareness Builder

Thanks to Debbie Bagjert for using her blog to help increase lupus awareness!  Thanks for highlighting the Lupus Society of Illinois in your posts!

Here's some of what Debbie had to say about her blog: "My biggest hope is that somebody can identify with something I write and that it makes them happy or it makes them feel better and not feel alone. I think that's one of the most important parts of Lupus Awareness and LSI - helping people to understand that they're not alone. None of us feels exactly the same, but we are each of us doing battle in our own way and we need all the backup and support that we can get."
