COULD SOUND HEALIN G BE JUST WHAT YOU NEED?

Sound healing is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body/mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health. Each organism has its own vibratory rate. Each object in the universe has its own unique resonant frequency.

I became interested in Sound Healing while I was studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
and heard a lecture by Deepak Chopra. He spoke about the importance of how sound creates certain moods in the listener and how different sounds affect people in different ways.  I had a big "a-ha" moment during this lecture as I could never understand why I would always get so upset in restaurants if we sat at a noisy table, while the rest of my family barely seemed to notice.

We all have varying levels of noise sensitivity, (apparently mine is very high!), which cause different physiological and psychological reactions to noise exposure. I became very curious as to what caused me to be so sensitive, as compared to say, my husband, and after researching this I learned that noise sensitivity can be affected by all of the following:

- how you react physiologically to stimulation in general
- how sharp your hearing is
- your attitude to noise in general
- your beliefs about the harmful effects of noise in general
- how vulnerable you are to stressors other than noise

Just like we must recognize that there is no perfect way of eating that works for everyone, and that diet is very bio-individual, the same holds true with the type of music we choose to enjoy.

As I began to learn more about Ayurveda, (a sanskrit word derived from spiritual texts from ancient India meaning "knowledge or science of life") , I better understood how critical it is to eat the right food for your particular type or "Dosha" as it is referred to in Ayurveda.  We all have elements of the 3 different Doshas, and the more we can understand when we are balanced and when we are not balanced, the healthier we can become by providing our bodies with the right nutrients, exercise, and self-care that our body requires at varying times during our lives. This includes whether it is morning or evening, when we are under extreme stress or calm, and during different seasons during the year.  This is a huge part of what I teach my clients during their coaching sessions.

Deepak Chopra chose to collaborate on a project for the Center for Mind Body Medicine with the Becvar brothers, one who is an acoustic guitarist and the other who is a pianist (who toured with Kenny G and John Mellencamp among others, by the way..). This collaboration resulted in an awesome set of Dosha balancing music to enhance his Quantum Healing work in a CD titled
 "THE MAGIC OF HEALING MUSIC"

These songs have really helped me managing anxiety, getting a better night's sleep, and being more productive while I work. The 3 Doshas are called Kapha, Vata and Pitta. The Kapha songs are very invigorating, the Pitta is calming and the Vata is relaxing depending on what your needs are at the moment.

I think you will love this if you are looking to calm your stress, sleep better or improve your focus during the day.

Wishing you all a safe, relaxing, happy & healthy July 4th weekend!
Harmoniously yours,
Suzy
