Message from Head of School
Dear TMS Community,
In my years in education (over 30!), last night was the best Back to School Night ever! A big thank you to all who attended, we enjoyed showing you what the students have been learning, and we hope you enjoyed it as well!
To get to know our San Rafael community more, The Marin School has joined the Chamber of Commerce. Yesterday I went to their Education Committee meeting. When I introduced myself to the group, someone in the room remarked that they had seen the ads on the back of busses all over Marin and San Francisco! Everyone in the room agreed and said that there is a buzz going about how great our school is doing. Keep it going! Tell your friends about The Marin School. We have an Open House coming up on Saturday, October 12 from 10-noon. Please invite your friends who have kids considering high schools. Thanks!
Warmly,
From now until November 25th, we are having a canned food drive at The Marin School.
We would love to have as much participation as possible, as each donation will go directly to lesser-privileged individuals and families. Please donate any canned or boxed goods in one of the three bins located in the lunch hall. Let's get all those cans filled up!
Sincerely, Paul Gray
Student Absent? Have an Appointment During the Day?
If a student is absent or needs to leave campus during the day because of an appointment, we ask that a parent notify the school.
This process can be done easily by sending an e-mail to our new Administrative Assistant Maria Balestrieri, in the Main Office. Her email address is:
The Marin School's Got Talent!
Hey TMS students! The Marin School ASB is putting on a talent show in November, so pull that ukelele out of storage and start practicing! There will be an info session in Kristy's room on Wednesday, October 9th during tutorial. So if you are interested in sharing your talent, make sure you are at the info session.
For more information on the talent show, email ASB president Jordan Packer: [email protected]
Clubs Fair
Today during clubs period, TMS held its annual Clubs Fair. Students previously submitted ideas for clubs they thought would be fun and interesting, and sought out a faculty advisor. During the fair, each club had a table where students could learn more, and sign up for the clubs they were interested in. This year's club offerings are:
Green Thumb Club with Marybeth and Zannie
Diversity Club with Gustavo
Mine Craft Players Club with Josh
10K Club with Shirey
Scrabble Club with Barbara
ASB with Kristy
Yearbook with Alison
With so many fun offerings, many students signed up for 2 or 3 clubs!

If you haven't already, please let us know if you have a student who is currently in the 8th grade as we would like to send them an invitation to a special TMS Sibling Visit Day on Tuesday, October 15th.

TMS Student Creates Crowdfund Video
Congratulations to Sophie Jonak who recently created an amazing video to raise money for the Davidson Middle School Marching Band. Sophie was a member of the Davidson Band and Jazz Band for two years and volunteered her time and talent in creating the video for a crowdfunding campaign. We are proud of her for making a difference! The students at Davidson will likely earn enough money for Marching Band uniforms thanks to her artistic efforts. Way to go Sophie!
Save the Date: Grandparents' & GrandFriends' Day on November 26th
Don't miss the magic that happens when grandparents and special friends spend the morning with their TMS teen in classes led by our spectacular faculty.
What: Grandparents' & Grandfriends' Day
When: Tuesday, November 26th from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Where: TMS Campus
Highlights: Start the day with coffee at a reception hosted by our Head of School, attend classes with your TMS teen, enjoy a special program, and finish the visit with a complimentary lunch.
Don't have a grandparent nearby to bring to TMS? Then invite an aunt, uncle, family friend, or older sibling. Every TMS student is strongly encouraged to bring a guest!
Please note: Each TMS family extends the invitation to their teen's guest of choice. TMS does not mail invitations directly to grandparents.
More fun and exciting details to follow as the date gets closer!

Are you an alumni family?
We have an exciting campaign underway to rename our new student services area The Barbara Schakel Student Center. We are in the early stages of raising funds to dedicate the heart of our new campus to our Head Emeritus, Barbara Schakel, the heart and soul of The Marin School. Barbara oversaw the dramatic transition of TMS to our current college-preparatory program.
