ST. ANDREW'S BUILDING REPAIR & MAINTENANCE UPDATE
August 2017

Dear St. Andrew's Community,

Our church is our spiritual home and is important to all of us as we provide a welcoming and inclusive place for all to come worship. We write to update you about building repairs and maintenance. At our 2017 Annual Meeting, we shared that we would develop a long term vision for building maintenance and repairs.

For 2017, immediate repairs being completed in August and early fall are:
  • Roof - As of August 7, replacement of the roof, which is now 30 years old, will begin. It will cost approximately $44,000. Thanks to Keith Clemens for leading this effort and being onsite each day while the work is completed.
  • Sill - Specific to the sanctuary, at this time, the Vestry is anticipating final bid information from Isaac Blair Company. The cost to repair the sill is estimated at $35,000 - 45,000. Thanks to Dick Laurie for leading this work and helping us procure a reasonable price for specialized work.
Financially, we are extremely fortunate to have the funds available for these two significant and necessary repairs. The Together Now fund along with a donation dedicated to building repair will be used to cover these expenses. It is important to note that with these expenditures, no additional funds are available through Together Now.
  • Interior Ceiling - We have a small section of the ceiling to fix and have received insurance funds to cover the repair. We expect this to be completed in the early fall after the roof is replaced.
Looking ahead to 2018 and beyond, our project list includes repainting the exterior church and parish hall, replacement of the Garaventa which provides access to the Sanctuary and downstairs ADA bathrooms, new windows in the parish hall, and a new parish hall floor.

The Vestry plans to identify and apply for grants, where possible, and we ask for your assistance in this effort. Please let us know of foundations, agencies or other possible sources of assistance. We will continue to actively manage our finances and maintain our property so that we as a parish can continue to thrive and make a difference in our communities.

Thank you,

Bill Sprows and Sue Coyne, Co-Wardens on behalf of the Vestry
2017 ST. ANDREW'S STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN
Opportunity to Lead

The Vestry is seeking a leader (or two) to lead the 2017 Stewardship campaign. It's an opportunity to spearhead an important parish activity that enables us to conduct our ministry, do outreach, have music, Sunday School, and maintain our building among other items. Stewardship is about donating time, talent, and financial support, where possible to the parish.

The campaign time frame is October 1st - December 31st. All materials are provided by the Diocese and are sent by our parish administrator, Carole. It's a chance to be creative or have as in prior years speakers at a few services talking about what St. Andrew's means to them.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact one of the wardens: Bill Sprows at bsprows@yahoo.com, or Sue Coyne at s.e.coyne@att.net
This has been one of the most bountiful years for our Community Garden! Thank you to all who are taking part! Below is the current schedule for tending our Community Garden. If you have not yet done so, sign up for an open week on the signup sheet in the Narthex.

ONGOING WAYS YOU CAN BE A PART OF ST. ANDREWS:

Being a part of a Church Family means there is always room to be involved and lend a hand. Here are some ways you can lend your time or talent to St. Andrew's this fall:

ACOLYTES: Anyone in grade 2 and up (YES! this includes ADULTS!)  can  serve as an Acolyte. If you or your child would like to serve as an Acolyte, please contact Gary Innes to see what dates are available. Remember, children who serve as Acolytes also attend Church School, so they won't miss out on the fun!

ALTAR GUILD: The Altar Guild is actively looking for new members to join our ministry. Altar Guild is responsible for the care and setting of the altar each Sunday including all special services for holidays, weddings, baptisms and funerals. The Altar Guild operates with teams of four to five members who are on duty for a month several times throughout the year. During that month, it requires an individual time commitment of about 1-2 hours which includes setting up ahead of and cleaning up after services. New members work closely with experienced members until they are comfortable with the care of the altar on their own.  Please contact the office if you are interested in becoming a member.  We would love to have you join us!

COFFEE HOUR FELLOWSHIP:  A cookie, a cup of coffee, and a smile can go a long way!  The coffee will already be on, so the hard part is done! Grab a friend or two and help keep this special time of fellowship going.  If you are interested in hosting an upcoming Coffee Hour, please call or email Carole in the office for available dates.

LAY READERS / CHALICE BEARERS The role of the
Lay Ministry in our parish  life is to represent the lay fellowship of Christ during ou worship services... either reading Bible passages, leading prayers, distributing the wine, and occasionally acting as acolyte, when necessary. We'd love to have more people to read...you wouldn't need to act as Chalice Bearer or sit at the altar. We'd especially like more readers for the 8 o'clock service. Contact Karen Troupe if you're interested or have any questions at:  karen@thetroupeship.com .
FRIENDLY VISITORS

A visit, a prayer, a kind word and a smile mean so much. Would you be interested making occasional visits to parishioners who are shut-in and unable to come to Church? Please get in touch with Deacon Liz at deaconeliz@gmail.com to learn how you can become part of this important ministry to members of our congregation.

The Shawl Ministry members will be gathering on the first Sunday of each month.  All are welcome. Prayer shawls will be given to members of St. Andrew's who are going through a difficult time as a reminder of God's love and of our prayers.
If you would like to join this ministry group, contact Rev. Jan at janwalden1@gmail.com.
