My Changing Role with Fresh Expressions US

Many of you remember that, when I came as Pastor, you were gracious enough to allow me to remain involved with the Fresh Expressions movement. You were willing to allow me to spend up to an average of one full day a week doing that. What a church!

But the time has come to devote myself to FBC full-time. Last week I informed the Personnel Committee that I am resigning my position with Fresh Expressions US, effective June 1. I will remain involved with the movement as they need me and as I am able to contribute, up to once a month. As of June 1, however, any work I do with Fresh Expressions US will be on my own time.

I feel very good about this move. I have loved my work with Fresh Expressions and believe deeply in its mission. I'm excited about the potential for fresh expressions of church that will grow out of FBC, Huntsville. Now I have a deep sense that I should turn my full attention to our church.

This is a time of great opportunity for our church. I am convinced we have a great future if we can discern what God is doing and join Him in that.

I am excited about giving full attention to FBC, and having a life that is a bit less "scattered." As you can imagine, wearing these two hats has, at times, stretched me a bit thin.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity FBC has given me to remain involved with Fresh Expressions at such a deep level, and for the great gift of allowing me to be the pastor of such a marvelous church.

Gratefully,
Travis Collins

The Butterfly
A Christian Symbol of The Resurrection
Early Christians adapted symbols with Christian meaning. The butterfly became a symbol of the resurrection of Christians to eternal life through the redemption of Christ. When the body of Christ was prepared for burial in the tomb, his body was wrapped as the caterpillar is wrapped in the Chrysalis stage. This stage representing death and burial might be the final stage of life but we soon see emerge from the Chrysalis a beautiful butterfly, the same as the Resurrection of Christ as He emerged from the tomb with the beauty of His life revealed to the world!

Our Arts Ministry has worked with Leigh Halverson, Joy Moore, and the children of our church who have made beautiful butterflies to prepare us for our Easter celebration.  Those butterflies will be on display from Palm Sunday through Easter.  To further remind us of the resurrection of our Lord, the Arts Ministry will be handing out butterfly pins to everyone on Easter morning.
