VBS Numbers and Why They Matter

On Monday morning, June 12, I walked into our Life Center and had a moving experience. Children had gathered for our Vacation Bible School’s opening worship. And there were lots more children than I remember from last year!

The average attendance in 2016 was 143.
The average attendance in 2017 was 208.
The good news is that we had a 45% increase over last year!

The good news is also that we didn’t have as many this year as I’m sure we will have next year!

Should we really talk about numbers? Well, I understand that some might say, “It’s not about numbers; it’s about people.” However, when we are trying to build for the future, to have 45% increase in the number of children in VBS over last year is a big deal. A really big deal.

Obviously, the honor goes to God for His blessings. Yet God uses people, and I’m deeply grateful for the VBS Lead Team (Emily DePlachett, Nancy Harrison, Katie Hoppe-McQueen, Emily Lemons, Debbie McDaniel, Nancy Moore, Jamie Richardson, Barbara Sizemore, and Anne Stone) that came alongside Joy Moore, Leigh Halverson, Emily Ballard (our Children’s Ministry Intern), Cindy Thompson, and our 127 wonderful volunteers!

I am so excited about our todays…and our tomorrows. And I am so honored to be…

Your Pastor,
Travis
