HAP (Huntsville Assistance Program)
On this past Saturday I joined some of you, and people from churches across Huntsville, for the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP) and the dedication of HAP’s new building. I am so grateful for FBC’s key role, in concert with 70 other churches, in supporting HAP.

As I looked around the group on Saturday, I commented that it felt like the Kingdom of God. People from various congregations, under the Lordship of Jesus, with different perspectives on multiple issues, coming together to serve people. It was a beautiful thing.

Gayla Kidd, one of our wonderful members, is the Director of HAP. Several of you serve as volunteers and board members. I want to express my sincere appreciation for what all of you do.

Multiple times each day our church refers people to HAP. Their current services include assistance with utilities, rent and mortgage, food, prescription drugs, gas, and dental. Each client is interviewed in person. They have a clearinghouse database of more than 45,000 individuals which helps coordinate ministry to people in need among various providers.

In the past five years, HAP has provided almost $1 million in assistance to more than 24,000 families! I’m glad we help support HAP each year through our missions budget. And I’m grateful to our Baptist Builders and our Boy Scout Troop (#70) for helping get the building and grounds ready. Moreover, the Trustees did a great job helping secure a permanent home for HAP—its present building just across the railroad tracks from the library.

Remember all this in July when you are invited to bring food for HAP! And would you consider being a volunteer? (Contact Mike Pearce at mike@fbchsv.org.) Individual donations are always welcomed, as are prayers for those to whom they minister.

Blessed are those who serve those in need! That’s one reason I’m so honored to be…

Vacation Bible School 2017
From June 11th-15th our church was filled with the joyful noises of 227 kids and 127 volunteers enjoying our 2017 Vacation Bible School! It was a wonderful week—filled with science experiments, robot decorations, high-energy games, and Bible stories. Centering on the theme of “Maker Fun Factory,” our children learned that they are CREATED by God and BUILT for a purpose.

As we kicked off VBS with Family Worship Night on Sunday, parents had the opportunity to connect with their children by learning the theme songs and Bible truths we had planned for the week. After this fun service led by our worship team, our families fellowshipped outside while enjoying some yummy food truck and ice cream treats.

On Monday morning, we were amazed at the number of children who arrived at our doors! In fact, we had so many friends that we decided to start a new 5th and 6th grade VBS group this year in the Student Center, and the students in WEE were able to participate as well! As all of our children traveled around the church from station to station, their crew leaders talked to them about the fact that God made them, is for them, is always with them, will always love them, and made them for a reason.

Our Children’s Ministry Team is so thankful for the countless hours of love that many of our church members put into making Vacation Bible School an impactful week for our children this year. THANK YOU to our setup crew, station leaders, crew leaders, prayer partners, and many more! I trust that our children will remember this VBS for years to come.
