Fresh Expressions of Church

Fresh expressions of church are new forms of church for people highly unlikely ever to come to our church or any other church, no matter how well we do things.  Missionary-minded people who begin these fresh expressions of church pay particular attention to subcultures—people who have something in common with each other.

Ninety members of FBC already have shown interest in this element of our church’s vision by their participation in meetings about this topic.  These are potential “Pioneers”—people who might be willing to work with a handful of others in an effort to incarnate the gospel while remaining connected with FBC.

Among the many ideas thrown out there, we have narrowed our list at this point to the following potential groups:
  • International Community
  • Dinner Church in Butler Terrace
  • House/Neighborhood centered churches
  • College/Graduate Students
  • Outdoor Enthusiasts
  • Downtown Residents
  • Muslims
  • Art Community
  • People in Recovery
  • Medical Residents at UAB’s Huntsville campus
Soon you will hear more about this, and you will be invited to the next conversation about where we go from here.  Thank you for getting behind this movement. If you want to see more about this international movement, go to

So glad to be…

Your Pastor,
The videos produced for us by SweetWater Marketing are wonderful!  They help inspire us toward the fulfillment of the five elements of our church vision.  We want everyone to see them.  Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of our wonderful technicians, there are so many moving pieces it has proved difficult to pull off the showing of these videos in the 10:30 Sanctuary Worship Service.  So we will continue to show the videos in First Fellowship and utilize our website and the Wednesday mid-week Study to get the word out to everyone else.
Watch last Sunday's video leading us toward a focus on Fresh Expressions.

This Sunday we focus on Radical Hospitality.

The Disturbances Documentary Screening
The Disturbances chronicles the role Christian missionaries and Nigerian pastors played in 1966 during tribal atrocities. Missionaries of various denominations were working in the country when tribal killing followed military coups, and the missionaries were in a tough spot: As foreigners, they were to “stay out of politics,” but their Christianity and humanity sparked their actions in the conflict.
