Are We Going to Have a 5:00 Sunday Worship Experience?

We need to ask ourselves the question:  Is the timing right for FBC to launch a 5:00 p.m. Sunday worship experience?  At this point, the answer to that question is unclear.

At FBC, we have lots of big things going on, including the launching of fresh expressions of church.  We (I) have not done a good job at publicizing the plans for, and reasons behind, the 5:00 worship service.  It feels like the topic of a new worship service has gotten lost in the wide array of all the new, and good, initiatives.  To this point we have not had enough people say they are going to be part of that service to give us the critical mass we need.

So, at noon and at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, in our Fellowship Hall, we are going to hold interest meetings.  We are going to serve a simple meal for both those meetings, and childcare is available for both meetings as well.  If you are interested in being part of the new 5:00 Sunday worship experience, please come to one of those meetings or, if you cannot come, please contact me directly ( and let me know of your interest.

We will gauge the level of interest and decide after May 22nd whether we should launch, as planned, on August 13, or whether we should postpone the launch of the new service until August of 2018.

Please join me in praying that we will have clarity, one way or another, regarding the launch of that service.  We want to follow God’s timing, not our own.

You all are doing so many wonderful things.  It is a joy to be…

Your Pastor,

Worship Care Volunteers Needed
We have a great and wonderful challenge facing us! Our Young Adult Ministry is bringing us more children to be cared for during Worship! Now the challenge facing us is to find more loving adults to offer that care.

Worship Care is provided for both worship services – First Fellowship and Sanctuary Worship - and is for children birth – 4’s.  Because of numbers, 8 caregivers are required for each service. The more volunteers we have, the less often we ask you to serve. We would love to have volunteers to help us coordinate these events.

During Family Dedication, we are always asked if we, as the congregation, will support young families by providing care and nurture for the children. How are you following through on this promise? Contact Cindy Thompson ( or Joy Moore ( for more information.  Thank you for helping us welcome little children and their families!
