Reunion 2018 - Save the Date!
It's never too early to start planning for the next reunion! Reunion 2018 will take place on Saturday, September 29th (the Feast of St. Michael!)
Reunion 2018 will celebrate the jubilee classes ending in "3" and "8" and honor the silver and golden anniversary classes of 1993 and 1968, respectively. Please know that our reunions are always open to ALL SMA alumnae. Just gather a group of your friends and come!
(Will you and your classmates be celebrating a milestone birthday in 2018? Why not get together at the 2018 Reunion to party hearty? The more the merrier!)

In recent years, it has become our custom to run a slide presentation at the reunion luncheons (courtesy of SMA Board member Kathy Seyfried.) This year's "show" can be viewed by going here.

SMAAA Charitable Foundation News |
On Thursday, June 15, 2017, SMAAA Charitable Foundation Vice President, Blanca Camacho ('74) presented scholarships to three graduating 8th graders from the Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Manhattan who, coincidentally, all started attending St. Jean Baptiste High School in the fall.
Ms. Tamia Richardson was the proud recipient of a four-year Saint Michael Academy Alumnae Association Scholarship. St. Jean Baptiste will receive $250 per year towards her tuition.
Ms. Jade Solano and Ms. Christa Jirmnson were each the recipient of a Caridad Arroyo Gorostiza Scholarship, a one-year scholarship started last year by Ms. Gorostiza's son, Dr. Felipe Gorostiza, who was the last principal of St. Michael Academy, and additionally funded this year by her nephew, Mr. Juan Arroyo. Ms. Solano will receive a $200 award and Ms. Jirmnson a $100 award which, again, will be paid directly to the school for their tuition. In addition to this year's recipients, Dr. Gorostiza has also chosen to renew the scholarship of last year's recipient, Alexis Weishaupt, who is currently attending Saint Vincent Ferrer High School.
This brings to a total of seven the number of scholarship recipients to date. We now have a full house, as it were, since we are in our fourth year of scholarship awards and the seven represent students who will be freshmen, sophomores, a junior, and a senior in the coming school year.
Although our awards are modest we have increased our scholarships by either the dollar amount or number of recipients in the past four years. We are grateful for larger donations such as those made by the Gorostiza family and the Class of '75 which established specific awards, as well as all other donations which when combined put a smile on the recipients' faces. We hope to be able to make a bigger difference by awarding bigger scholarships in the future.
Thank you all for your kindness and generosity. It is much appreciated!
The St. Michael Academy Alumnae Association Charitable Foundation (SMAAACF) was founded by a group of alumnae of St. Michael Academy shortly after the closing of the school, in honor of the school's mission of educating young women in a loving and caring community and assisting each to develop her gifts and talents to live a fully Christian life. The SMAAACF raises funds primarily to provide scholarships to low income girls to attend Catholic high schools in the New York metropolitan area.

Your annual dues enable us to keep the spirit of SMA alive through our newsletter, our website, our reunions and our special events. Your dues go toward covering our operating expenses. This emailed newsletter costs money (approximately $400/year), mailings cost money (last year's reunion mailing cost us close to $1,000), just being in
existence costs money (filing fees, website fees, etc.)
To remain a voting member of SMAAA you must renew your membership annually. Please become a member of SMAAA, or renew your existing membership,
by clicking on this link to fill out a "dues payment" form, and sending it along with your check for $25 to:
Jeanne Billings
