8th Graders Past, Present, & Future Totem Poles

Aquinas 8th Graders read, Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelson in Ms. Pelan's Reading Class. Each student was assigned to create a totem pole that represented their past, present, and future.

FFA District LSE
The David City FFA Chapter competed in the District Leadership Skills Event (LSE) at Raymond Central on Dec. 5th. In junior high ag literacy speaking, Natalie Blum received 3rd place & is State alternate. In extemporaneous speaking, Laurel Ockander is District Runner-Up & State Qualifier. In creed speaking, Kirsten Bell is District Champion & State Qualifier. You can read the complete results here.

Aquinas One Acts perform
"Unsound Effects"

The Aquinas One Act received the Runner-Up Plaque in the Centennial Conference One Act Competition on Nov. 21st at Fremont Bergan. Honorable Mentions Acting Awards went to Sam Sisco, Sarah Juranek, Will Yindrick, Amanda Sturh, Isaac Archuleta, and Josh Roh. On December 2nd, the Aquinas One Acts received 4th Place in a very tough District. Honorable Mention Acting Awards went to Amanda Sturh, Sarah Juranek, Will Yinkrick, Nathan Uhrmacher, Sam Sisco, Isaac Archuleta, and Liz DeWispelare.

St. Mary's News
St. Mary's using STEM in Pre-Kindergarten

The Pre-Kindergarten Classes at St. Mary's, taught by Mrs. Rachel (Wisnieski), incorporated STEM activities this fall. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. After reading,
"Pumpkin Town" the students used candy pumpkins and toothpicks to create tall pumpkin towers. After the fingerplay, "Five Little Jack-O-Lanterns" student had to construct a fence using, toilet paper tubes and popsicle sticks, that would hold 5 Jack-O-Lanterns (shown right). Many first attempts didn't work, but they persevered and tried again.

St. Mary's students collected paper products and canned food items to benefit St. Gianna's Home in Lincoln and the local food bank. St. Gianna's helps victims of domestic abuse and those escaping forced abortion.

Mitten Tre e
St. Mary's is now collecting hats, gloves and mittens to decorated the tree. All items will be donated to keep those hands and heads warm this winter season.
Nationally Know Artist, Norris Chee, Visits St. Mary's Elementary
Thanks to the Butler County Arts Council, Norris Chee shared his wisdom and artistic passion with St. Mary's Students. Chee helped the students make beautiful airbrushed designs to keep. You can read more about Norris Chee his visit to St. Mary's here.

Alumni Volleyball Tournament
The Bi-Annual VB Tourney was on Nov. 26th. Champs were alumni from 91/92/94/98. Runner-ups were the members of the 2014/2016 team. See all teams here.
Dr. Saalfeld Opens Optimal Health Chiropractic

Optimal Health Chiropractic is now open in David City. Steven Saalfeld, Aquinas Graduate Class of 2003, earned his Doctorate in Chiropractic at Palmer College's School of Chiropractic earlier this year. We are glad to welcome Dr. Saalfeld and his wife, Katie, to David City!
All-American Runner of the Year
Marissa DeWispelare '13 was back to back All-American and GPAC Runner of the Year. Marissa is a Senior at Doane College and has had a shining Cross Country Career. You can read more details here.
Jesca: Vocal Artist
Jessica Bartunek '08, is currently pursuing a professional singing career under the stage name, Jesca, in Atlanta, GA. Jessica highlighted the St. Mary's Dinner and Variety Show on Nov. 19th with her vocal talents. Jessica took choir with Mrs. Mimick her whole high school career and was offered a record deal after high school. You can read Jessica's entire interview in The Banner Press.

Wrestler: Top 15 Recruiting Class
USA Wrestling honored Chadron State College as being in the Top 15 (Non-Division I) 2015-16 Recruiting Class. Matt Kindler '16 is part of that 2015-16 Class. You can get the Eagles schedule and results here.
