NEW ORLEANS - The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale proudly announces its 2017
Royalty, Queen-Select Dawn R. Bentley-Johnson. The queen and theme, 'MKFF Hosts Game Day,' were announced at the annual 'Reveal' party, the krewe's kickoff to the annual Carnival season, held Saturday evening, August 27, at the Crystal Palace Reception Hall, Eastbank location.

"Once New Orleans was in the running for the 2017 NBA All Star game, I never dreamed our theme would coincide with the event," said MKFF President and Founder Gwendolyn V. Rainey. "Knowing the game would be held the same day as our annual parade, it seemed only fitting and we are going to have an exciting fun-filled weekend!"

Dawn R. Bentley-Johnson, a native New Orleanian, was inducted in the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale at its inception in 2013. Dawn has loved Mardi Gras all of her life, and especially loves the vibe and culture of Carnival 'under the bridge' in New Orleans' historic 6th Ward. Dawn has participated in second lines with social aid and pleasure clubs since she was a child and comes from a long line of culture bearers, having Mardi Gras Indians, musicians, and dancers in her family for generations. Dawn has always dreamt of being a Mardi Gras queen.

"Joining an all-female, predominantly African-American krewe has been one of the best decisions of my life," Bentley-Johnson says. "Being selected Queen of the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale is the pinnacle of my life. How awesome it is to have little Black girls see the beauty and grandness that is us."

Dawn will begin her reign as Queen Femme Fatale at the krewe's annual gala on Saturday, January 28, 2017.

A graduate of Joseph S. Clark High School, Dawn earned Bachelor's and Masters of Science degrees in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University. She currently works for the State of Louisiana as a supervisor with the Department of Children and Family Services.  She is a member of the New Orleans Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Dawn is the wife of Glenn Johnson, Sr., the mother of Michael Brooks, Jr., and the daughter of long-time civic activist Barbara Lacen-Keller, who serves as a MKFF float lieutenant.

In addition to the queen and theme, also announced were the 2017 Grand Marshals, Mrs. Sybil Morial, wife and mother of former mayors Ernest "Dutch" Morial and Marc Morial, and New Orleans native Actress Emyri Crutchfield, who recently starred as the adolescent Kizzy Kinte in the revamped classic TV mini-series Roots. MKFF will have its very own 'Sister Act" as the Sisters of the Holy Family roll with the krewe in celebration of their 175th anniversary.

MKFF will once again grace the Uptown route in its third annual parade on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. The coveted signature mirrored compact will be thrown, along with lipstick and heart plush toys, annual theme beads, and many new throws. The NBA All Star Weekend will culminate with the game played in the Smoothie King Center on the same day.
