2018 Homecoming and Reunion
Thank you to everyone who attended Serra's 2018 Homecoming and Reunion Weekend last month! Both nights were successful, starting off with a well-attended alumni barbecue and football victory over Saint Ignatius.

More than 300 people attended the reunion on Saturday, October 20. Thanks to everyone who made both nights big successes!
Saint Junípero Serra
Serra dedicated a statue of Saint Junípero Serra in the early evening of October 20, the day of our 2018 Reunion Gala. This statue was commissioned by Dennis '58 and Pam Lucey, who were in attendance at the dedication and blessing. The new statue was blessed by Father Joe Bradley '73 and placed in Alumni Courtyard, adjacent to the Center for the Arts and Sciences.

"The statue symbolizes who Saint Serra was and how he made a positive difference by establishing the missions," Dennis said.

Also in attendance was the statue's sculptor, Shelley Smith. Shelley joined Serra ceramics students during the school day to discuss her Saint Serra project.
ThanksGiveDay

A big thank you from our ThanksGiveDay team for your incredible support for our first annual day of giving! Together, we raised a total of $151,000 for our school and surpassed our goal of $150,000 ($75,000 for our first 75 years; $75,000 for our next 75). We are so grateful to our alumni, parents and friends of Serra for their generous gifts!

Our current Padres came through with amazing energy and support for our school, as well. The seniors, juniors and sophomores earned 100 percent  participation. 713 of 821 current students gave to Serra on ThanksGiveDay. Faculty/staff and student giving totaled $15,000 together.

"It was truly an amazing day where alumni, alumni parents and grandparents, faculty/staff, students and friends of Serra all came together," said Chief Advancement Officer Mike Fadelli '88

Open House 2018
Serra High School's Open House will begin at 1 p.m. this Sunday, December 2. This exciting afternoon will introduce middle school boys and their families to the Serra community and all its components - academics, activities, athletics and the arts.

"Current Padres will host the event, and they will share their Serra experiences, answer questions, and lead our guests on an extensive school tour," noted Serra Admissions Director Sandy Brook. "Guests will meet faculty and staff members, coaches and club moderators. Open House is an excellent way to meet other prospective students and their families."
Padres Volunteer for Second Harvest
Twenty-two members of the Serra community shared their holiday spirit by sorting and boxing food last Tuesday night at Second Harvest Food Bank.  Second Harvest of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is committed to doing whatever it takes to build a hunger-free community.

That means distributing nutritious food to nearly every neighborhood in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, leveraging every available food resource, and collaborating with organizations and people who share ou r belief that hunger is unacceptable. The Padres volunteered at the Bing Center in San Carlos.

"Our students showed great spirit and enthusiasm during their evening at Second Harvest Food Bank," said Serra math teacher Randy Vogel, who supervised the boys with Serra Admissions Director Sandy Brook. "They realized how many families in our local community they will impact by giving their time and talent."
Saint Mary's Courtyard
Saint Mary's Courtyard, located at Serra's Stratford Way entrance, was recently renovated thanks to gifts to the Padre Fund from alumni and parents. The renovation includes a restored statue of Mary, new paved walkways, new seating areas and a healthy dose of green foliage surrounding the area.  Our students are enjoying this beautiful, peaceful new space thanks to your support!
Fall College Signing Day
Four members of Serra's senior class signed commitments today at an on-campus ceremony to play college athletics next year. These student-athletes have excelled in the classroom and within their respective sports to reach the next level of competition.

Congratulations to the following seniors:

* Andrew Abbey (Cross Country) - Menlo College
* Dominic Meza (Baseball) - Cal State San Marcos
* Sean Singh (Crew) - Loyola Marymount University
* Brooks Taner (Swimming) - University of Arizona
Serra Junior Commits to Stanford
In addition to Serra's senior college signings this fall, a Serra junior recently committed to play baseball for Stanford University.
Drew Dowd '20  accepted a scholarship offer from the Cardinal after also considering offers from Duke, Arizona, TCU, Santa Clara and Arkansas.

In addition to being named an All-WCAL pitcher last year as a sophomore, Drew also stands out in the classroom. Holding a 4.52 weighted GPA, Drew has flourished academically at Serra. He is taking a course load this semester that includes AP chemistry, AP US history, honors algebra II/trigonometry and honors Spanish 5.

Drew has long been interested in attending Serra, starting in his days as an elementary schooler at Serra's neighbor, The Carey School. Drew would peer through the schoolyard fence and dream of the day that he would don the varsity blue and gold while taking the mound for the Padres. That day came on April 14 of last year, when Drew was called up to varsity and pitched two sterling innings of relief against Carlmont. He continued to impress throughout the rest of his sophomore season, finishing the year with a 1.88 varsity ERA and 36 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched.

Drew was drawn to Stanford's combination of Pac-12 baseball and elite academics. He plans to focus on business as an undergraduate.
