Fund a Dream 2019
Congratulations to Tom Brady, Jr. '95 for winning his sixth NFL Super Bowl! We are delighted that his dad, Tom Brady, Sr., will be our keynote speaker this year at Fund a Dream 2019. The action-packed event will be held on Saturday, March 16.

Tom, a former member of the Serra Board of Regents, will speak about his experience as a Serra parent and how our school prepares young Padres to become compassionate, community-minded leaders. Tom is strong advocate of community service who appreciates what Serra taught his son about leadership, inclusion and giving back.

Since 2005, Fund a Dream has raised $4 million for students on financial aid. This year, 36 percent of our Padres received financial assistance. Hope to see you on this very important evening!

Food, drinks and plenty of action on the diamond will help kick off the spring baseball season. We hope to see you back on campus on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m.   To R.S.V.P., email Alumni Director Bob Greene '85.

Warriors Announcer and Serra Alumnus Visits Serra
Golden State Warriors Announcer Bob Fitzgerald '84 spoke to members of the Business Innovation Club last week. The Padres were captivated by Fitzgerald's stories and his unique career path. He stressed the values of hard work, excellent communication skills and following one's passion. He also cautioned the Padres not to spend too much time on social media.

"It's so important to get off your phones and connect with people," said Fitzgerald, a voracious reader. "It's important to be well-read. I would suggest reading everything from news to politics to stories about technology, so you will be well-rounded. Start your day by reading interesting articles, and get off the texting. Be curious, learn and listen."

One of the most recognizable sports personalities in the Bay Area, Fitzgerald is the television play-by-play announcer for the Warriors on CSN Bay Area. The Emmy Award winner also is the co-host of the popular "Fitz and Brooks" show on KNBR 680.

"Mr. Fitzgerald helped us to understand the value of listening to others," said Business Innovation Club President Garrett Fetisoff '19. We learned that making connections will create opportunities. The Serra students were thrilled to hear Mr. Fitzgerald speak, and a few teachers even attended."
College Commitments
Four members of Serra's senior class signed commitments last week at an on-campus ceremony to compete in college athletics next year. These student-athletes have excelled in the classroom and within their respective sports to reach the next level of competition.

Congratulations to the following seniors:
  • Mike Pechina (wrestling) - Menlo College
  • Michael Churich (football) - UCLA
  • Malakai Rango (football) - Idaho State University
  • EJ Lahlouh (football) - Rice University
Serra Senior Accepted to Cornell
Serra senior  Eric Dias will attend Cornell University next year. Eric is an excellent student who carries a challenging course load this year, including AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science and AP English.

Eric will major in computer science. Cornell, a selective Ivy League school in Ithaca, New York, has a reputation for excellence in that field. Beyond his extraordinary academic accomplishments, Eric is a third degree black belt in taekwondo and holds a part-time job at a taekwondo school. Rounding out his eclectic background, he is also a skilled pianist.

"Serra has helped me grow academically and as a person," Eric said. "I joined Serra as a shy freshman but over the years I have grown in confidence. I thank the Serra community for its constant support and encouragement."

We are proud of Eric's accomplishments here at Serra, and we wish him well at Cornell. We are pleased to feature him as one of the outstanding students in our Class of 2019.
