Three Padres Selected in MLB Draft
Three Serra alumni were selected in this week's 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Two of the three Padres are power-hitting, left-handed batters who patrol the outfield, and one is a top-of-the-order spark plug.

Hunter Bishop '16, a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist, completed a transcendent junior season for Arizona State at the Baton Rouge NCAA Regional over the weekend. Bishop showed off his elite power this season, hitting 22 home runs with a .748 slugging percentage. He was named First Team All Pac-12 and was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round with the 10th overall pick. Bishop was also named an Academic All-American.

Scott Ota '15 had an outstanding senior year for the University of Illinois-Chicago. He hit .357 and added 20 home runs, breaking UIC's school record. He joined Bishop in the NCAA top ten for slugging percentage with .746. Ota led the Flames to a Horizon League championship and an NCAA Regional berth in Louisville. He was selected by the New York Mets in the 10th round and was a Horizon League All-Academic honoree.

Nolan Dempsey '14 was the third Padre alum to be selected in the 2019 MLB Draft. Dempsey was picked on Wednesday by the Giants. The Fresno State infielder hit .332 and had eight home runs this year for the Bulldogs. He was also named Academic All-District with a 3.78 college GPA.

Good luck to all three Padres as they pursue their dreams in professional baseball!
