Last month, we welcomed 241 new freshman Padres into our community. Of these students, 23 are sons of Serra alumni and four have Padre grandfathers. We anticipate an exciting school year, with many events planned for our alumni.
Our annual Alumni Father-Son Mass will be held on September 18 at 7:30 a.m. All alumni with sons currently attending Serra are invited. I would also like to invite all alumni to our annual Homecoming Barbecue at noon on October 17. Come back to campus for some great food and football!
Sincerely,
Bob Greene, Jr. '85
Alumni Director

Alumni Father-Son Mass and Reception is September 18 |
The Alumni Father-Son Mass will be held at 7:30 p.m. on September 18. We are proud of the number of students who are following in their dads' footsteps by attending Serra. Our alumni dads and grandpas join their sons each year at the Alumni Father-Son Mass.
The Father-Son Mass exemplifies Serra's tradition of building men of faith, wisdom, service, community and leadership. As a tradition during Mass, fathers and sons place candles in a galvanized tub. By the end of the Mass, the candles melt together to signify unity. CLICK HERE for information and to register.

Our Padre student-athletes have put in a lot of hard work over the summer and are eager to start competing in the WCAL. We are looking forward to an exciting fall season with football, water polo and cross country. Football is looking for a school-record WCAL "three-peat" after winning league titles in 2013 and 2014. The Padres will be led by seniors Kelepi Lataimua, Billy Tuitavake, Rory Uniacke and Hunter Bishop. Serra is ranked #5 in the Bay Area in the San Francisco Chronicle's preseason poll.
Water polo looks to extend its string of consecutive CCS playoff berths to 13 consecutive years. The team is also looking to have a strong WCAL showing. The Padres will be led by junior Arvin Bahia, and seniors Louie Realyvasquez, Andy Black and Sebastian de Arantes Oliveira. Matthew Olujic will be defending the cage for the Padres.
Cross country will be led by
senior Matthew Herrera, who was a state meet qualifier last year and finished fourth among all WCAL runners. Expectations are also high for
senior Jonathan Garcia, junior Ara Archbold and j
unior Adam Mansell.

Christian Clifford '89 Authors Book |
Christian Clifford '89, a member of Serra's theology department, recently published a book entitled
Saint JunÃpero Serra: Making Sense of the History and Legacy. Its foreword is by Fr. Tommy King, O.F.M. ('74), who for 11 years evangelized in Latin America.
"Pope Francis called Fr. Serra the 'Evangelizer of the West,'" said Clifford. "I believe my passion for the topic and presentation will help the fair-minded see the first American saint to be canonized on American soil in a clear and concise way, and as one worthy of inviting on one's own faith journey."
Fr. Serra will be canonized in Washington, D.C. on September 23 and the Serra community will celebrate during a special Mass on September 24.
