Suppose you were walking down the street and by some magic you run into your younger self.  Most likely you would scarcely recognize each other.  What would the two of you discuss over coffee?  Would you have contempt for that younger self?  Delight?  What?

Notes from Chapter One
By Shanti Moorjani

In the first chapter of the book, A Global Warming Primer by Jeffrey Bennett, the opening quote in the introduction says: "Preservation of our environment is not a liberal or conservative challenge: it's common sense" President Ronald Reagan, January 25, 1984 (State of the Union address). The first chapter of this book starts with basic science, suggesting it is not that difficult and understandable to an average 4th or 5th grader. The key is to be informed and see the big picture.

I Need to Buy a Graduation Gift

So, the nephew is graduating from high school and is a superstar. Like many middleclass kids, he seems to have every electronic 'thing' there is, including a 3D printer. College is coming up. What, oh what, could a proud aunt find that will be unique, useful and maybe memorable?

Let's think ... I'd like it to have a gentle message about our Earth. I'd like it to be something he'd want to take with him to school in the fall. And sustainable.

My research is here to share, because I think some of you might have gifts to buy this spring, whether for grads, or dads, or weddings, etc. etc.

JennyK : a little gem tucked in a storefront on Stockton Avenue, El Cerrito. OK, so there are more female gift items than male, still.... I've found unique items, like water bottles you've never run across before, and small storage bags made from recycled materials.

EcoStore : 2530 San Pablo in Berkeley. All sustainable, useful items and books. (OK, so many if not most of this age group read from their devices vs. 'real' books.)

Annie's Annuals Gift Store: Richmond. If you think of Annie's as a plant store, check out the trailer with gifts on the property. Some very clever items stocked there.

Do you have more ideas? Can you leave a message about your shopping hints?

Faith is a Verb... Musings by Pastor Tony
May 4, 2018

I've been thinking and reading a lot about love lately. God is Love. Paul wrote, "Faith, hope, and love abide; the greatest of these is Love." Jesus tells us the two great commandments are to love the Lord your God, and to love your neighbor as yourself, which make up the two stained glass windows at the front of our sanctuary. Based on that, the UCC has named a new Vision Statement: "United in Christ's love, a just world for all," and has also taken on a new campaign called the 3 Great Loves: Love of Creation, Love of Children, Love of Neighbor. This story-telling campaign is asking churches to send in stories about ways they are already living into this vision.
