Special Offering for Jubilee USA:
Sunday October 16, 2016
Please make checks out to ACC with Jubilee in the memo line. Donations will support the tiny staff and the BIG work Jubilee is doing to protect the most vulnerable from predatory lending practices ...including Payday Loans locally, and help with restructuring loans for poor countries at the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.  This allows the poor people in those countries to benefit from more adequate health care, and education.

Jubilee is recently working with the FACT (Financial Accountability and Corporate Transparency) Coalition to lobby for transparency in the formation of corporations in this country because it is very easy in the U.S. to form a corporation, keeping secret the name of the "beneficial owner". When that is not transparent, terrorists, human traffickers, and others can hide or launder their money without detection from law enforcement. These anonymous corporations also become easy places to hide assets in order to avoid taxation. Programs that benefit the most vulnerable in our society are hurt by inadequate tax/funding.  The lobby efforts in DC to improve this situation are progressing well due to the lobby and policy advising efforts of Jubilee USA - one of the only bi-partisan voices left in DC.   Anything you can contribute is gratefully received.  Board of Missions and Social Justice

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the entire Pacific School of Religion community, I'd like to thank you for your recent gifts of $500 to the Annual Fund & $329 to the Scholarship fund. Your financial support is critical to our shared work and it demonstrates your belief in the mission of PSR, to prepare spiritually and theologically rooted leaders for social transformation, in the church and society.

Your support of PSR is a validation of our students and their ministries, and the impact of your generosity will extend well beyond our beautiful Berkeley campus and out into the world. It is through your support that students receive scholarship assistance they need to make theological education accessible, faculty and staff are funded for the vital work of engaging in the world with an inclusive vision of faith, and communities are strengthened through our programs and the work of our alumni.

Sincerely,

Rev. Dr. David Vasquez-Levy
President

Dear Tony,

Churches are so wonderful! Thank you for "taking us in" in the wake of FCCB's Friday fire.

The spaces were perfect and I particularly appreciated Javier's care and attention to preparations for the reception, and your being willing to rearrange the church on a moment's (read that no) notice.

I do feel that everything worked together to create a caring and nourishing and spirit filled service of thanksgiving for Tom's life.

I will hope to meet you again under less stressed circumstances.

Gratefully,

Rebecca Cook

Engaging the Scripture
Sunday October 16, 2016

As I read this passage, I think of the perseverance of the Civil Rights movement, which is having a rebirth in the Black Lives Matter movement, and how justice shall prevail. I think of Martin Luther King, Jr's "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."  What do you think of?

See you Sunday!

Pastor Tony
