Red, White & Blue Summer is Here!

Summer 2012 is shaping up to be an epic time in Folds of Honor history. As in 2011, Budweiser has again pledged up to $2.5 million to provide college scholarships for the spouses and children of veterans killed or disabled in the line of duty. The iconic Budweiser bottle has received a major makeover - donning special red, white and blue packaging for a limited window this summer. Proceeds from the sale of Budweiser products sold nationwide this summer benefit Folds of Honor.
Budweiser's "Red, White and Blue Summer" campaign also includes a partnership with Major League Baseball called "Walk Off a Hero". For every walk-off during baseball's 2012 regular season, Budweiser will donate $5,000. Budweiser is the official sponsor of Team USA during the 2012 Olympics, releasing a new 16-ounce aluminum bottle with the Team USA logo. Nascar's Kevin Harvick, driver of the No. 29 Chevrolet, will spotlight a special Budweiser red, white and blue paint scheme for six races this summer. Finally, on Flag Day (June 14) Budweiser wholesalers nationwide will hold sampling events for the brand. All of these incredible initiatives are changing the lives of military families who have made extreme sacrifices while serving their country. Kaye and Natasha Mounsey (their story follows) is one family of thousands who's husband and father gave his life in the line of duty. Please take a few moments to hear these two courageous ladies. Their story strengthens my resolve to press forward on behalf of the one million spouses and dependents just like them. Thank you to Budweiser for what it is doing this summer to make a difference in lives. And, thanks to each of you for joining us on this mission. Godspeed, Major Dan Rooney President and Founder, Folds of Honor Foundation |

Folds of Honor Scholarship Recipient Natasha Mounsey
On 14 April 1994, Chief Warrant Officer Erik Mounsey and 26 of his comrades lost their lives when their helicopers were shot down over Iraq. Mounsey was serving his third tour in Iraq and left behind his wife Kaye, and his two-year old daughter Natasha.
Natasha's dream during high school was to study graphic design at the University of California-Northridge. Unfortunately, the tuition was high and Kaye found that many of the scholarship programs for children of fallen soldiers were limited to children of soldiers who died after the World Trade Center attacks on 11 September 2001. Folds of Honor Foundation does not have such limitations and has enabled Natasha to pursue her dream. Natasha was the first recipient of the Foundation's immediate-use Dale Flanagan Scholarship.
Natasha is pursuing a Bachelor's degree at the University of California-Northridge and is very thankful for the help she has received from the Foundation. "This scholarship has lessened the burden of tuition costs on my mother and me," Natasha said. "My father would definitely be proud; education was very important to him and he always wanted me to attend college." |

Patriot Golf Day Helps Families Of Fallen Soldiers
"It has been at times very, very painful and at times very, very sad." Wesley Bauguess is talking about raising her two daughters, Ryan and Ellie, without her husband Major Larry Bauguess who died serving our country on the Afghan-Pakistani border on May 14th 2007. Their two daughters are Folds of Honor scholarship recipients, funded primarily through Patriot Golf Day. Jerry Briele, owner of The Emerald Golf Club in New Bern, NC started a Patriot Golf Day tournament three years ago and has raised more than $20,000 for Folds of Honor scholarship families, hosting the Bauguess family this year. Pinnacle Golf Balls and the Tradition of the Coin
U.S. military members have a long-standing tradition of carrying a unique coin. These coins identified the bearer as part of a particular unit and captured the essence of their affiliation and pride. This tradition began when a young pilot passed out special coins to the members of his squadron as a token of their time together. Soon after, one of the pilots in the squadron was shot down in enemy territory. The enemy soldiers confiscated all his identification except for the special coin, which the pilot was able to conceal in a pouch around his neck. Later this coin would be his key to freedom when a soldier from an allied country recognized the insignia on the coin. Pinnacle is proud to continue its support of Folds of Honor Foundation with a new on-pack promotion to help increase awareness for Folds of Honor leading up to Patriot Golf Day. Beginning in early June, purchase a specially marked Pinnacle Gold 15-ball pack and receive a free commemorative Folds of Honor coin. Carry this coin at all times, use it on the golf course as a ball marker and may it always be a reminder of the brave men and women who serve our country. Visit your local golf shop for more details. |
