Holy Week

This upcoming Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion brings us to the most sacred week of the year. Here at Archbishop Carroll, we will be entering into these holy days through... 

  • Celebration of Holy Mass as a school community at 9:15 am on Tuesday, April 11
  • Our annual multimedia interactive Living Stations entitled “Were You There” at 8:45 am on Wednesday, April 12 
  • Celebration of Holy Mass with the West Chester University Newman Center community and visits to the repositories of the Blessed Sacrament at three area churches beginning at 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 13 (anyone interested in riding the bus provided may sign up outside the Ministry Center or email tphillips@jcarroll.org)

All are welcome to join us either on live stream (for Tuesday’s Mass/“Were You There”) or in person as we walk together with the Lord through his Passion, Death, and Resurrection. Know of the Archbishop Carroll community’s prayers for you and your family during this Holy Week! 

Kairos Registration: Class of 2018

Registration for all Kairos retreats for the Class of 2018 is now OPEN. Space is limited on each retreat so please sign up ASAP for whichever retreat you wish to attend. Students should make sure to discuss with their parent/guardians their intention to register before doing so, ensuring that the dates they sign up for are free on their personal/family calendar. Please note that this year there are a limited number of open spaces on the June Kairos retreat, in addition to those invitations which have been extended. 2017-2018 Financial Aid

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 30, 2017

In order to be considered for tuition assistance for the 2017-2018 academic year, you must complete the Smart Aid application found on our website, or at smartaidforparents.com.  The only documentation required is your 2016 tax return, which must be submitted with your application.   Awards are contingent upon receipt and verification of the tax return.  No tuition assistance will be awarded without a completed, verified Smart Aid application.    **Families who currently receive tuition assistance for the 2016/2017 school year must complete the 2017/2018 application IMMEDIATELY.  Tuition Assistance will not be granted without the completed, verified Smart Aid application. To simplify the process, those families who applied for 2016-2017, need only do the following:

  1. Login to Smartaidforparents.com with the username and password from 2016/2017.
  2. Update your information.
  3. Submit the application with the $25 processing fee.
  4. Upload your 2016 tax return with your completed application.

Athletic Fees

Athletic fees for fall and winter sports should be paid in full by now, as they were due on your Smart Tuition account in October and January.  Billing for athletic fees for spring sports is included with your April invoice.  Please note that there was a billing issue and some invoices were sent prior to the addition of the athletic fees.  You  should have received a revised invoice from Smart Tuition once the fee was added.  Please review your Smart tuition account.  If you have already paid your April invoice, please check your account to make sure you have included payment for the spring sports fee. If not, please remit payment by the due date. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue.  

AP Test Fee

Students currently enrolled in AP classes are required to take the AP test given in April and May. The AP test fee is $95 per course.   Billing for this fee is included in your April invoice. Please note there was a billing issue and some invoices were sent prior to the addition of AP test fees.  You should have received a revised invoice from Smart Tuition once the fee was added. Please review your Smart Tuition account. If you have already paid your April invoice, please check your account to make sure you included payment for the AP test fees. If not, please remit payment by the due date. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue.     

Registration Fee Upper Class 2017-2018

The $225 re-registration fee upper class 17/18 was included with your February Smart Tuition bill and should be paid by now, as the students in the current freshman, sophomore and junior classes have chosen their courses for the 2017/2018 academic year.

Congratulations to Katherine Hageney who was recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for outstanding performance among Pennsylvanians on the College Board SAT or the ACT test.

Congratulations to Darius Peterson who was selected as a 2016 school winner for outstanding achievement by the Wendy’s High School Heisman organization.

Wendy’s Heisman Scholarship for current juniors (Class of 2018) who are Scholar-Athletes

Applications for the Wendy's Heisman Scholarship are now available for the class of 2018. Current juniors who are scholar-athletes with a 3.0 GPA, involved in their community and school should apply.  100 scholarships will be given out ranging from $1,000-$10,000.  To apply, go to winthewendysheisman.com.  Deadline to apply is October 2, 2017.

Scholarship from Women’s Club of Upper Merion

The Women's Club of Upper Merion is offering at least a $700 scholarship to seniors residing within the Upper Merion Area school district  who have enrolled at an accredited school. The primary criteria for selection is academic achievement with preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.  Stop by Guidance for an application.  Deadline to apply is April 24, 2017.

Career and Technical Scholarship from Horatio Alger Association

The Horatio Alger Association is offering a career and technical scholarship to seniors who intend to pursue education at a community college or technical school in Fall 2017.  Students must demonstrate financial need and be a U.S. citizen.  To apply, go to application.horatioalger.org.  Deadline to apply is June 15, 2017.

Scholarship from Havertown Optimist Club

The Havertown Optimist Club is offering a $2,000 scholarship to two (2) high school seniors who are full time residents of Haverford Township. An essay is required.  Stop by Guidance for an application.  Deadline to apply is April 21, 2017.

Best Mattress Reviews Scholarship

Best Mattress Reviews is offering a one-time $1,000 scholarship to promote sleep awareness and is for seniors who plan to attend college, who must be a U.S. citizen and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  To apply go to www.bestmattressreviews.com.  Deadline to apply is May 19, 2017.

Sawyer Foundation Scholarship

The Sawyer Foundation has announced $5,000 in scholarship awards to sophomores, juniors and seniors in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. A 500 word  essay is the only requirement.  To apply, go HEREDeadline to apply is May 30, 2017.

Summer Internship

The Uncommon Individual Foundation located in Devon and Point Breeze is sponsoring a summer internship as an Entrepreneur Associate Assistant for self-motivated high school students (rising juniors, current juniors and seniors)  who have the ability to commute to one or both office locations on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  Students need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a letter of recommendation is preferred.  The position's  main role is to support college interns by working on projects for participants within the Entrepreneur Mentoring Program.  If interested, stop by Guidance.

Main Line College Fair

The Main Line Regional College Fair will be held on Monday, May 15th (Please note - this date is a change from the calendar)  at Villanova University from 6:30-9:00 pm at the Pavilion.  For more information and to see the list of colleges, click HERE.

Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship

Dunkin' Donuts is holding their 8th annual Philadelphia Regional scholarship program. Applicants must be seniors who demonstrate "well-rounded" character: positive academic record, demonstrated leadership, commitment to school and community activities, and experience in a work environment.   Online applications will be open from March 1, 2017 through April 15, 2017.  To apply, click HERE.

Free Camp College at Allegheny and Albright Colleges

Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling (PACAC) is offering free camps at Allegheny and Albright Colleges for rising seniors and juniors.  Participants will learn about all aspects of the college search and application process,  experience life in the residence halls, etc.  To apply, click HERE

Assumption College - Pre-College summer program

Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts is sponsoring a pre-college summer program.  This six-day program gives select rising high school seniors an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of studying the Humanities in a college environment.  This summer's program will run from June 25-30.  For more information, click HERE.

Free Educational Summer Camp for Minority High School Students

Applications are now being accepted for the Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) at Point Park University in Pittsburgh.  This program is a FREE in-residence summer camp for minority high school students who wish to explore the pursuit of a college degree in accounting and/or business.  This camp is for sophomores, juniors and seniors who hold a 3.0 GPA.  Applications will be accepted through May 19, 2017.  To apply, go to www.pointpark.edu and google ACAP.

Temple’s Summer  Owl Leadership Experience (SOLE) is a 3 week academic summer program that helps rising juniors and seniors get a head start on college with credit courses and an inside look at being a leader in different fields of study.  Stop by Guidance Office for more information.

Finer Womanhood Award Scholarship

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is offering the Finer Womanhood award  for $500.00 to African-American female seniors who live in Delaware County, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, who are actively involved in the community and who will be attending a four-year institution.  Stop by Guidance for an application.

Summer Leadership Academy at Mercy College

Mercy College in New York is holding a summer leadership academy for current juniors with an interest in business, who have a 3.5 GPA, demonstrated leadership activities and strong public speaking skills.  If interested, stop by Guidance.

Summer Enrichment Program

Write your Future is holding a summer enrichment program in July and August.  This summer writing course is open to 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.  It is a two-week program that brings students to a local university or college campus where they will receive instruction from excellent volunteer professors and lecturers.  Students can apply online at www.writeyourfuture.org.

Music Scholarships at Eastern University

Eastern University is offering music scholarships up to full-tuition for four years as a music major.  For more information, click HERE.

Main Line Martin Luther King Association Scholarship

The Main Line Martin Luther King Association is now accepting applications for scholarships for the next college year.  Applicants must write a 500-word essay on community service and be recommended by a counselor, religious or community leader.  Stop by Guidance for an application.  Deadline to apply is April 15, 2017.

College Board & Khan Academy

FINANCIAL AID for the Class of 2017

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is available on-line as of October 1.  This is the basic form needed to apply for financial aid at most schools.  Please check your student’s schools of choice for other required forms and filing deadlines.  The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. Junior Prom and Ring Mass

The class of 2018 will receive their class rings on Friday, April 7 at 9:30 am in the school auditorium. The day will begin with the Junior Ring Liturgy (we'll also LiveStream the event - click HERE to view) and light refreshments will follow in the east gym. Parents and guests are invited to attend.  All members of the class of 2018, even if they did not order a ring, are welcome to attend the liturgy.  Any student planning to attend the prom is reminded that attendance is mandatory at the class liturgy to attend the prom. 

Senior Prom

The Senior Prom will be held at Rivercrest Golf Club in Phoenixville on May 5 from 7-11.  Tickets are $200 per couple and will be on sale on April 19th and 20th in the cafeteria.  The last day to purchase a ticket to the Senior Prom is April 28th.  Information and parental permission forms were distributed to seniors last week and are available by clicking HERE.  All financial and discipline holds must be addressed prior to purchasing a prom ticket.  The prom agreement must also be signed and turned in when purchasing a ticket.  It is our hope that the seniors have a pleasant and safe evening of enjoyment at their prom.  

Career Day

Career Day is an event hosted by the National Honor Society every year. This day provides an opportunity for students to get a feel for various professions and fields as they work towards their futures. The Career Day Committee is currently in the process of looking for Carroll alumni and friends who would be willing to speak and share their time with our current students about their respective careers. We are asking for your help in making Career Day 2017 a success. This year, Career Day is scheduled for Friday, April 21, 2017. If you can join us for the full day or part of the day we would be happy to host you.

Graduation and Handicapped Seating Information

Please send your requests for handicapped seating at Graduation in writing to The Office of Student Affairs by May 1. Cabrini has designated spots for handicapped parking on their campus.  As a reminder, graduates receive 2 tickets to the Baccalaureate Mass and 7 tickets (2 reserved and 5 general admission) to Graduation.  Any handicapped seating for Graduation needed is for our own floor-planning purposes and will not affect the quantity or type of tickets you receive for Graduation. 

ACTS Presents: Seussical

This Spring, Archbishop Carroll Theatre Society will present Ahrens & Flaherty's Seussical! Seussical focus on the characters from such beloved books as Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, and others! 

The show runs April 27, 28 & 29 at 7:00pm and April 30 at 2:00pm. Archbishop Carroll students receive one free ticket with a valid student ID. Tickets are $10 general admission.

PLEASE RETURN YOUR FALL AND WINTER UNIFORM!!!

We are STILL missing uniforms here in the athletic office. Seniors, as we are getting very close to graduation, it is crucial you turn in any uniforms you still have as this is a requirement if you’d like to receive your diploma. Please turn in all uniforms to the athletic office in a bag labeled with your name.

Happy Masters Week!!

A message from golf coach, Mike Owsik: “Anyone interested in trying out for the 2017 golf team should contact Coach Owsik at email address Mikeowsik6@gmail.com.  The team will start voluntary training sessions in the beginning of May.  Tryouts will be in August.” 

Cheerleading

Archbishop Carroll Cheerleaders welcome you to participate in their open gyms every Tuesday night.  Times will run 6:30-8:30pm.  Work on stunts, tumbling, conditioning, and jumps! Come one, come all.  *8th-11th graders interested in joining the squad for 2017-2018 are strongly encouraged to attend.  8th graders must be from a diocesan feeder school.  To RSVP for these Open Gyms or if you have any questions, please email Coach Alison Reynolds at cheerleading@jcarroll.org.  Evaluation dates will be announced soon!

New Vaccination Requirements for 2017-2018 School Year

All NEW students to Carroll and all Juniors are required to submit a record of immunizations along with a physical by the first day of school. 

Please check with your physician to see if your child is required to get another MCV/Polio Vaccine.

Summer is fast approaching and we are busy getting our summer camps together to make them the best experience possible for your children. Registration forms are now available on the website under the athletics tab and at the school.
