Dear Archbishop Carroll Community,

During this festive time of year, as we draw closer to Christmas Day and prepare for the birthday of Jesus Christ, I often reflect on how we have been called to serve others.  A fine example of this service is our Archbishop Carroll students, specifically, Stephen DeFruscio, Ryan Conners, Kieran Spillane and Anthony Warnick who last night represented our school at St. Francis DeSales with Sister Alice from St. Denis Advent Angels.  These young men coordinated, collected and boxed Christmas Gifts for 150 families in the West Philadelphia area.  This instance provides just one example of the Christmas spirit at Carroll as the Advent Season brings a time of joyful festivities and reflection to remind us of the value of family and the unity within our community.  Is there any better way to celebrate the season?   

It’s hard to believe our school year will soon be halfway over. As each year passes, I’m reminded of how short the time is here at Archbishop Carroll that God has given us to shape and influence our children in His name!  We have a great and precious privilege in this area and it is with that in mind that I express my thanks and gratitude to each of you. Thank you for sharing your child with us, and allowing their God given graces to brighten our halls. Thank you for helping us succeed; it is because of your commitment to Carroll that we have a warm and brilliant community.

School-wide Mass

The Archbishop Carroll community will celebrate school-wide liturgy on Thursday, December 22 with Holy Mass for Thursday in the Fourth Week of Advent. Mass will begin at 8:15 am and all members of the school community are most welcome. 

May God bless you with a joyful celebration of the birth of Our Savior and a peaceful start to 2017. Know of the prayers of the Archbishop Carroll family for you and your family in these final days of Advent and into the Christmas season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Congratulations to our Mathletes team, who tied for first place in their home competition this month!  This is an extremely challenging competition with top high school mathematicians competing against each other. We are so proud of all of the hard work that the Mathletes team and moderator, Mrs. Newman put into their preparation for this event.

PSAT/NMSQT scores are now available online. Students are encouraged to print out their score report by logging into their College Board account.  You can link your College Board and Khan Academy accounts to access personalized SAT practice based on your PSAT/NMSQT results. Understanding Your PSAT/NMSQT Score Report - College Board has put together a video regarding your PSAT/NMSQT scores and what to do next.  This video is located under “Important Announcements” on CarrollU (Guidance) website.

Maguire Foundation Scholarship

The Maguire Foundation provides last dollar scholarship support to up to five students in each institution’s incoming freshman class for four years of matriculation.

Maguire Scholars are selected by their respective institutions, and must remain in good academic standing (3.0) and be an active participant in school and/or community volunteer extra-curricular activities, and have an EFC of $0 – $10,000 (Expected Family Contribution).  Applications will be distributed in senior homerooms this week.  Additional copies can be found in the Guidance Office and on Carroll’s website under CarrollU.  If you have any questions, please contact the Guidance Office directly at 610-688-7610 x171.

FINANCIAL AID for the Class of 2017

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is available on-line as of October 1.  This is the basic form needed to apply for financial aid at most schools.  Please check your student’s schools of choice for other required forms and filing deadlines.  The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. For more information please stop up to the Guidance Office or check out the PHEAA website www.PHEAA.org. 

College Essay Assistance   

Sr. Marianna Fieo is available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week in the Guidance Office to help with college essay and personal statements.  Please stop by the Guidance Office to make an appointment or email Sr. Marianna directly at [email protected].

2017-2018 Financial Aid

In order to be considered for tuition assistance for the 2017-2018 academic year, you must complete the Smart Aid application found on our website, or at smartaidforparents.com.  The only documentation required is your 2016 tax return, which must be submitted by March 31, 2016.  Awards made prior to that date are contingent upon receipt and verification of the tax return.  No tuition assistance will be awarded without a completed, verified Smart Aid application.   Families who currently receive tuition assistance for the 2016/2017 school year must complete the 2017/2018 application by December 31, 2016.  To simplify the process, those families who applied for 2016-2017, need only to do the following:

  1. Login to Smartaidforparents.com with the username and password from 2016/2017.
  2. Update your information.
  3. Submit the application with the $25 processing fee.
  4. Upload your 2016 tax return by March 31, 2016.

Athletic Fees

Athletic fees for fall sports should be paid in full by now, as they were due on your Smart Tuition account in October.  Winter sport athletic fees will be included in your January Smart Tuition invoice.

CAFE IS COMING!! This is our biggest Fundraiser at Carroll and we need all of your help. We will  have a planning meeting in January. ALL ARE WELCOME.

Our next Parent's Association meeting will be Monday January 9th at 7pm in the Library.

From International Education Opportunities
At this time of year, Global Connections Homestay starts preparing for the arrival of international ​ students who will begin classes at Carroll in the second semester.

Part of this process is readying host families and matching them with an enrolled student. Our number one request from families abroad is to have their child live with a member of the school community. Whether it be a teacher, coach, staff member, or especially a family with children attending the same school, this type of placement makes the family and student feel comfortable and safe.

Host families are paid a monthly stipend to offset costs, and we also provide a $300 gift to any referrals that result in a student placement. This gift is for current host families, or those that cannot host but know a family that can!
