Respect for the Gift of Human Life

On Friday, January 27 Archbishop Carroll students and teachers will travel by bus to represent our school community in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Those who remain back at school will come together for a prayer service where we will pray for those marching and for a greater respect for the gift of human life, especially the unborn. 

Catholic Schools Week Mass

The annual celebration of “Catholic Schools Week” begins Sunday, January 29. We will gather as a school community to celebrate our heritage as a community of faith, knowledge, and service on Friday, February 3 with Holy Mass for the Feast of Saint Blaise. As is tradition, throats will be blessed at this liturgy. All are welcome to join us at 9:15 am.
Carroll Students Perform with David Kim and the Sinfonia Orchestra

On Sunday, January 22, two Archbishop Carroll students had the opportunity to play with David Kim and the Sinfonia Orchestra at the Temple Performing Arts Center. Brittany Sterling Young '17, violin and Joseph O'Brien '18, trombone; performed Debussy's La Mer, Bruch's Violin Concerto and Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody.

Violinist David Kim was named concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999. Born in Carbondale, Illinois, in 1963, he started playing the violin at the age of three, began studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight, and later received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School.

The Girls Lacrosse team has created a web store for the Archbishop Carroll Girls Lacrosse program. This online store will be open from now until Sunday, February 6, 2017 .

Mother Daughter Luncheon

Seniors and their Mothers are invited to the Annual Senior Mother Daughter Luncheon on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at Westover Country Club from 11:30-2:00pm.  Invitations will be mailed home in the next week and can also be found by clicking HERE.  RSVP's are due Friday, February 3. We hope all of our senior ladies and their Moms will join us for this special event!

Mother-Son Dance

This special event is scheduled for March 3rd at Westover Country Club.  Ticket prices include a sit-down dinner, dessert, beverages, DJ, and dancing.  Gurscik Studios will also be available for photo packages.  Click HERE for the invitation.  Reservations are due by February 23rd.

PatrioThon

Carroll will host its second annual PatrioThon to support The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  PatrioThon is on Friday, February 24th at 7:00 pm.  The Thon Permission Packet is available in the Main Office and must be signed by both students and parents in order for students to attend this spectacular Carroll event.  Click HERE for the Permission Packet or if you are interested in donating, click HERE to access Donor Drive.

Graduation Information

We are in the home stretch, and graduation will be here before we know it! The Baccalaureate Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6th at 7:00 pm at Visitation BVM Church.  Graduation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 7th at 11:00 am at Cabrini University.  For your planning purposes, seniors are given 2 tickets to Baccalaureate and 7 tickets to Graduation (2 reserved and 5 general admission).  The Baccalaureate Mass will be streamed live for those who are unable to attend.  A link to the stream will be sent out prior to the event.  

Track at Carroll Sprints Ahead

The Girls Distance Medley Relay team finished 4th at DECLO Indoor Championships.

Their time is the 18th best in the state this season.

On Saturday, January 21, Senior David Fohner set a new school record in the 300m dash.

At the New Balance games at the Armory in NYC, his finish time was 39.04 seconds.

Mid-Year Grades

Any student that needs their mid-year grades sent to colleges must stop by the guidance office.

ROTC Information

Congressman Meehan will be hosting his annual Academy Day on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Valley Forge Military Academy and College.  The U.S. Military, U.S. Naval, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academies, as well as local ROTC representatives, will be on hand to provide information to interested students about admissions and academy life.  Stop by the Guidance Office for more information.

SAT Prep

The next set of SAT Prep classes for juniors start on February 6th.  Registration forms are available on our website, in the Main Office and in the Guidance Office.

Notre Dame Pre-College Program

The University of Notre Dame is offering pre-college programs this coming summer including leadership seminars and study abroad.  To apply, go to precollege.nd.edu. Deadline to apply is January 30, 2017.

$1000 Scholarship Opportunity

The Delaware County School Nurse Association is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a senior who is planning a career in nursing and has been accepted into a NLN accredited program leading to a bachelor degree in nursing.  Stop by the Guidance office for an application.  Deadline to apply is March 24, 2017.

PSAT Score Reports

The Guidance Department has a student copy of the PSAT score report for sophomore and junior students only.  These score reports will be handed back in homeroom this week.

College Board & Khan Academy

Students are encouraged to link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to access personalized SAT practice based on your PSAT/NMSQT results. Learn more at http://psat.org/scores.

Gettysburg College is offering high school juniors and sophomores the opportunity to attend academic camps over the summer months. Subjects include psychology, American government, creative writing, or information technology. Please top by the Guidance office for more details or check the guidance website.

Maguire Foundation Scholarship

The Maguire Foundation provides last dollar scholarship support to up to five students in each institution’s incoming freshman class for four years of matriculation.

Maguire Scholars are selected by their respective institutions, and must remain in good academic standing (3.0) and be an active participant in school and/or community volunteer extra-curricular activities, and have an EFC of $0 – $10,000 (Expected Family Contribution).  Applications were distributed before break to all senior students in homeroom. Additional copies can be found in the Guidance Office and on Carroll’s website under CarrollU.  If you have any questions, please contact the Guidance Office directly at 610-688-7610 x171.

FINANCIAL AID for the Class of 2017

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is available on-line as of October 1.  This is the basic form needed to apply for financial aid at most schools.  Please check your student’s schools of choice for other required forms and filing deadlines.  The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. For more information please stop up to the Guidance Office or check out the PHEAA website www.PHEAA.org.

2017-2018 FINANCIAL AID

In order to be considered for tuition assistance for the 2017-2018 academic year, you must complete the Smart Aid application found on our website, or at smartaidforparents.com.  The only documentation required is your 2016 tax return, which must be submitted by March 31, 2016.  Awards made prior to that date are contingent upon receipt and verification of the tax return.  No tuition assistance will be awarded without a completed, verified Smart Aid application.   **Families who currently receive tuition assistance for the 2016/2017 school year must complete the 2017/2018 application by January 31, 2016. To simplify the process, those families who applied for 2016-2017, need only to do the following:

  1. Login to Smartaidforparents.com with the username and password from 2016/2017.
  2. Update your information.
  3. Submit the application with the $25 processing fee.
  4. Upload your 2016 tax return by March 31, 2016.

ATHLETIC FEES

Athletic fees for fall sports should be paid in full by now, as they were due on your Smart Tuition account in October.  Winter sport athletic fees were included with your January Smart Tuition invoice.   It is important to note that fall and winter sports athletic fees must be paid in full prior to trying out for spring sports beginning March 6, 2017.  

REGISTRATION FEE UPPER CLASS 2017-2018

The $225 re-registration fee upper class 17/18 will be included with your February Smart Tuition bill.  Students in the current freshman, sophomore and junior classes will be choosing their courses for the 2017/2018 academic year during the week of February 20, 2017.

Carroll Crew Takes Home Medals
The Carroll Boys and Girls Crew Teams competed at the Philadelphia Indoor Rowing Challenge on Sunday, January, 22, held at Saint Joseph's Prep.

Our boys and girls competed individually against rowers from about a dozen other schools in the area and came home with three medals: (From Left): Freshman Suzie Dupnock won Silver in the Girls' Freshman/Novice Race, and Sophomore Maria Dupnock (Sophomore) and Mary Cate Archbold (Junior) took Bronze and Silver respectively in the Girls' Varsity Race. Senior Michael Pakuris was the top Carroll Boys' finisher, placing 9th in the Boys' Varsity Race.

The teams will next compete at the Center City Slam Indoor Race, at Drexel University, on Saturday, February 11th.
