The Kairos Retreat

The registration for the final Kairos retreat of the year will close on November 23. Any senior who wishes to still sign up should do so HERE.

A fund to assist those students who are in need of financial help in order to participate in the Kairos experience continues to accept donations. If you would like to sponsor a student (total cost: $280.00) or contribute to the fund, please contact Lisa Ritter in the Tuition Office (ext. 136 or [email protected]).

Forty Hours Devotion & Mass for Giving Thanks to God

On Monday, November 21, we will begin our annual Forty Hours devotion. This tradition was begun here in Philadelphia by St. John Neumann and is an intense period of prayer and Eucharistic worship in the life of a school or parish community. Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the monstrance on the altar for Adoration over a three day period (meant to mirror the forty hours that Jesus traditionally was in the tomb). The Forty Hours devotion will conclude with a school-wide Mass for Giving Thanks to God, culminating in a Eucharistic Procession and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Following Mass, students from our Community Service Corps will distribute the Thanksgiving meals collected to families in need in our area. The word Eucharist means “thanksgiving” and so it is appropriate that we invite all members of the Carroll family to spend time in Eucharistic Adoration over these days, especially as we recall the many blessings God has bestowed upon our school community. Tryouts for Winter Sports

Tryouts begin Friday, November 18. Students participating in a sport for the first time this school year must complete Sections 1-6 of the PIAA form. Section 6 must be filled out by your doctor AFTER June 1,2016. Any student who participated in a fall sport this school year should only complete Section 7 of the PIAA form, unless a student required medical treatment by a physician during the fall season, in which case the Athletic Office will determine whether Section 8 of the PIAA also needs to be completed by your doctor. All PIAA paperwork should be submitted to the Athletic Office. If all the necessary paperwork has been submitted, a green card will be issued to the coach. NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO TRY OUT FOR A SPORT WITHOUT SUBMITTING THE PROPER PIAA PAPERWORK. 

Athletic fees for fall sports were due to be paid on your Smart Tuition account in October. This fee must be paid in full in order to try out for, and participate in, a winter sport. If you have not already done so, please make payment directly to Smart Tuition immediately. Tryouts for winter sports begin on Friday, November 18, 2016.

Ice Hockey Fundraiser

The Ice Hockey team is hosting a beef and beer on Saturday, December 3, 2016. It runs 7pm-10pm at Barnaby’s in Havertown. Cost is $30 per person, $50 per couple; $35 at the door. For tickets and information contact Lisa Zambella or Leslie Walker. Click HERE to view full event flyer.

Yearbooks

Yearbooks will be on sale for the classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020 until TOMORROW. The cost is now $90.  The deadline for all sales is November 17. Students can place yearbook orders in The Office of Student Affairs.  No extra copies will be available in June, so please plan accordingly.  Click HERE for the order form.

Fall Show

ACTS is presenting Into the Woods as their fall production.  We invite you to attend any of our four performances- November 17th, 18th, and 19th at 7:00 pm and November 20th at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $10, and Carroll students get in free with a school ID. 

Blood Drive

The Archbishop John Carroll High School Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2016.  The blood drive is held in remembrance of Christopher John Jones, a former student of Archbishop Carroll.  The drive runs from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the West Gym.  Students aged 16 (with parent permission form) and older can sign up in the cafeteria with the Blood Drive Representative during their lunches.  Parents and friends of Carroll can schedule an appointment by calling Carroll and leaving a message with Mrs. Janine Cahill (610-688-7610 ext. 203).
Carroll Junior Honored with the Living Faith Award
Julia Straface, class of 2019, was honored on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at St. Bridget Parish ,East Falls, with the reception of The Living Faith Award. One of six honorees, Julia was the youngest, and also the second of her siblings, to be so recognized. Among the many reasons for her selection were her dedication to being an altar server, a volunteer at St. Joseph Villa in Flourtown, and an “emissary” from St. Bridget Parish to Shriners’ Hospitals for Children. Here, at Carroll, Julia is an active member of ACTS and is currently appearing in the fall musical, Into the Woods. Julia is also a Connelly Scholar, an academic honor earned by her scholastic achievement. We are very proud of Julia and congratulate her on this wonderful award for demonstrating real faith in action. We also extend congratulations to her very supportive family, and express our gratitude that Julia and her family are such an integral part of our Carroll Community.

Daily Guidance Announcements

Attention Class of 2017 

Congratulations to those who have received acceptance letters to college!  Please share your acceptance letters along with any scholarship information with the Guidance Office. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please allow the Guidance Office 7-10 school days for transcript requests to process. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please note that there is a November 11th deadline in order to guarantee pre-Thanksgiving college documentation processing.  There is also a December 5th deadline in order to guarantee pre-Christmas college documentation processing.

Any student that needs their 1st quarter grades sent to colleges must stop by the guidance office.

Scholarship information is listed on Naviance under “Scholarship List”.  Students can stop by the Guidance Office for additional information.

FINANCIAL AID for the Class of 2017

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is available on-line as of October 1.  This is the basic form needed to apply for financial aid at most schools.  Please check your student’s schools of choice for other required forms and filing deadlines.  The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. For more information please stop up to the Guidance Office or check out the PHEAA website www.PHEAA.org. 

College Essay Assistance   

Sr. Marianna Fieo is available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week in the Guidance Office to help with college essay and personal statements.  Please stop by the Guidance Office to make an appointment or email Sr. Marianna directly at [email protected].

Upcoming College Presentation

College presentations are finished for the Fall.  They will begin again in the Spring.

  • Students MUST sign up by 6th period the day before the presentation in the Guidance Office in order to be admitted to the presentation the following day.
  • Students MUST inform their teacher prior to the college presentation.

Philadelphia PACCAO Tour 2016

Pennsylvania Association of Catholic College Admissions Officers (PACCAO) will be coming to Carroll on Wednesday, November 16th at 11:30 in the west gym.  A list of colleges that are attending are on Carroll’s website.  Please contact the Guidance Office for more details.

Archbishop Carroll Ice Hockey Begins
The Puck has Dropped for the 2016-2017 Ice Hockey Season. The team is off to 2-0 start and there are high expectations for a solid season.

CAFE IS COMING!! This is our biggest Fundraiser at Carroll and we need all of your help. We will  have a planning meeting on Thursday 12/1/2016 at 7pm in the Library. ALL ARE WELCOME.

The Parent’s Association recently held a Designer Bag Bingo.  It was a great evening and enjoyed by all. Special thanks to all the parents who gave of their time and talent to make it such a fun night.  In particular we would like to acknowledge Carolyn Evans, Nancy Lake, Keesa Snead, Aimee Lynn Currie, Jen Melocci, and Anne Wince.  The Parent’s Association would also like to express its appreciation to Father Speziale, Mr. Cummings, Mr. Hauber, and Mr. Kirsch.  They are always there to support and give their time to the Parent’s Association activities.
