Barry Kirsch becomes first member of Carroll Hall of Fame
Archbishop John Carroll High School celebrated Barry Kirsch on Oct. 7, and all he has done during his 50 years at the school, making him the inaugural inductee into Carroll’s Hall of Fame.

The evening began in the Carroll chapel with a beautiful Mass, celebrated by Father Mike Speziale and accompanied by a student choir.

More than 500 guests from every aspect of Barry’s life attended the reception and induction ceremony.

During his remarks, Barry acknowledged and recognized his family, friends, co-workers and students, all of whom have been influential throughout his career at Carroll.

“His consistency, zeal, determination and humility have provided a wonderful example for generations of Carroll students,” said Francis E. Fox ’77, Carroll president. “This was a perfect opportunity to celebrate this great man.”

“Barry is Carroll,” said emcee Joe DeBarberie ‘74, adding he was the logical choice to be the first Hall of Fame inductee: “With all the catching up we have to do, 50 years of tremendous people who could be inducted into the Hall of Fame, we decided to make the inaugural about one individual. It says a lot about him and a lot about our community.”
A portion of the event's proceeds was used to create a scholarship, The Barry Kirsch Scholarship for Distinguished Service , a $5,000 scholarship to be awarded annually to a Carroll student for their senior year. The criteria for the scholarship are that the student exhibit talent in some area and that they are dedicated to promoting the culture of life, just as Barry Kirsch does as a teacher at Carroll.

At the event, President Fox and Mr. Kirsch presented the first-ever  Barry Kirsch Scholarship for Distinguished Service to Carroll senior Suzanne Carpenter (pictured above with her parents).

Suzanne is the oldest of six children, two of whom are also Carroll students.  She was named a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. She has been involved in the Pro-Life Club all four years at Carroll, attending the March for Life in Washington, D.C. and High School Respect Life Leadership Days, and prayed outside of an abortion clinic on Saturday mornings with Mr. Kirsch and other Pro-Life members

It was also a great night for Carroll alumni, faculty and friends, as many of them had the chance to reconnect with one another. Once again, congratulations Barry, for your myriad contributions to Carroll as a teacher, coach, Pro-Life moderator, mentor and friend.
Michael McCormack ’76 (far left) and Ed Morris ’76 (far right) presented a donation of $10,000 to Barry Kirsch and President Francis Fox '77, on behalf of the class of 1976. The gift, made through BLOCS, will provide tuition assistance for students here at Carroll.
