Dear Parents & Guardians,

As autumn grows colder and the hours of daylight decrease, Saint Paul encourages us with these words:

"Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall not all fall asleep, but we will all be changed, in an instant, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet.  For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." (1 Corinthians 15: 51-52)

In the Christian tradition, we remember in prayer our deceased alumni, benefactors, administrators, faculty, staff, family, and friends throughout the upcoming month of November. We do so to honor our loved ones and to recall our belief in the resurrection of Christ and the promise of the resurrection of the dead. November is a month-long celebration of the communion of saints, of remembrance and prayer for those gone before us, and of a heightened anticipation of Christ's Second Coming. In our chapel, the names of our deceased will be placed near the statue of Saint Joseph, patron saint of a happy death, so that we may be conscious of those for whom we pray daily.

At our schoolwide Mass celebrated earlier today, we were blessed to be joined by the family of Dominic Coyle ’17 as we prayed for his soul and asked Our Lady of the Holy Souls to speed his journey to heaven. When faced with death, especially the death of a beloved young member of our community, it can be difficult to see how our God could possibly be present in those moments. But our loving Father never leaves us alone and death never has the final say. He will always, always, always bring good out of evil. I have seen it profoundly in and among this Carroll family and can say with confidence that God is acting daily to bring us closer to Him and to one another as we remember Dominic and all our beloved deceased.

May God bless you and your families and may we pray daily for all those who have gone before us in faith: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Sincerely in Christ,

Thomas Phillips

From the Fine Arts Department
Archbishop John Carroll Honors Chorale/Band participated as the first ensemble to perform for the internationally acclaimed Harry Potter Conference and Quidditch Tournament at Chestnut Hill College this Past Weekend. These students were recorded live for channel 3 and 10 on the 5:00pm news that was shown around philadelphia. This opportunity made history at the college to show them the caliber of music that Archbishop Carroll has to offer and we were invited back not only for next year but further musician events at the college. I would especially like to thank Mr. Larimer, Ms Ginn and Mr Gallagher for these amazing roles during this performance. It was an incredible day for Carroll showcasing the wide variety of talents and giving a concert that will be remembered for years to come!! This event had a record 10,000 people on campus and over 60,000 in chestnut hill area. How amazing that Carroll was headlined and included in this massive event! I see more continued huge events in our future.
