Dear Patriots,

Welcome back! I am so excited to see what this year has in store for our Patriot family. One thing was truly solidified for me this summer: the bonds created in these hallways - the bonds between students, between students and their mentors, between members of the faculty and staff - these bonds are strong, familial and stunning to witness. There is a reason we often reference the "Patriot family." It's because, more than any other organization I've seen, we are a unit of love and support.

I want to bring two things to your attention: the first is [email protected] . We are consistently on the hunt for stories of our amazing community - stories for the  Patriot Post and stories for our social media feeds. If you are at a game, at a practice or rehearsal, at a service project, at a meeting, at home with your family and friends; capture it and send it in to [email protected]. We want to show everyone how proud we are of our Patriot family!

Second is our updated webpage: www.jcarroll.org. Over the summer we worked hard to update our webpage to better serve our community. We are consistently working to present an interface that is both informative and simple. Three things of note: the first is  our new calendar; click HERE to view the full calendar. It is now integrated with google, so saving events to your personal calendar is now much simpler. The second is our Faculty Directory. We are working to complete the full directory, and once complete will give a fuller view of our faculty and staff.

Lastly, is our "Parents" tab - located at the top of right of our page. Click HERE to access that page directly. This page will serve as a running tab of important announcements throughout the year. At the bottom of the page will be information regarding the Parents' Association and Scrip.

Thank you, as always for being such an important part of our community.

Sincerely,

Chris Serpentine
Director of Communication

Sacramental Life

Holy Mass is celebrated daily at 7:10 am in chapel (unless there is a school-wide liturgy) and all are welcome. Confessions will be offered this Thursday, September 15 at the beginning of all lunch periods in chapel. Please encourage your student to take advantage as we begin this new academic year.

Opening Mass of the Holy Spirit

We are proud to welcome the Most Rev. Michael Fitzgerald, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as principal celebrant and homilist of our Opening Mass on Friday, September 16 at 9:15 am. It is traditional to begin an academic year invoking the Holy Spirit upon the school community, especially on those who will be assuming leadership positions. Bishop Fitzgerald will install our new principal, Dr. Schulz, as well as our student council, NHS, and St. Katherine officers at the conclusion of the liturgy. In addition, the annual scholarship in the Bishop’s name will be awarded to a member of the Class of 2020. Please remind your student to be in formal Mass attire (boys - shirt and school tie, girls - blouse) on Friday.

Freshman Retreat

On Friday, September 23, the Class of 2020 will participate in their annual retreat. Their retreat will focus around the theme of “Make This Place Your Home”. Students will be encouraged to spend time in prayer, reflection, and fellowship with their classmates as they come to know the members of the Carroll family and how God has called them to become a part of this family. The retreat day will conclude with a social following lunch (the day will conclude at 2:25 pm) and students will receive more details in their Theology classes. Only FRESHMEN report to school on Friday, September 23. Please do not schedule any appointments or family activities for your child on this day as participation is mandatory.

The Kairos Retreat

The Kairos retreat is an experience that most students will tell you they look forward to almost from the moment they step through the doors of Carroll. It is, without a doubt, an outstanding encounter with the Risen Lord. Forty-three members of the Class of 2017 experienced this special time with the Lord on Kairos this past June. Some of these retreatants have been selected to serve as leaders for their classmates and are already busy preparing for the upcoming October retreat (NB: registration for this retreat is now closed).

Registration for the final two Kairos retreats of the year (January 10-13, 2017 and March 14-17, 2017 remains open online and is conducted on a first come, first served basis. The retreat is open to any current senior. Please go to www.jcarroll.org/campus-life/campus-ministry/kairos in order to register or for more information.

A fund to assist those students who are in need of financial help in order to participate in the Kairos experience continues to accept donations. If you would like to sponsor a student (total cost: $280.00) or simply contribute to the fund, please contact Lisa Ritter in the Tuition Office (ext. 136 or [email protected]).

Help us in our service to others.
Archbishop Carroll will be conducting a clothing drive next week, September 19-23.

The Archdiocese is recalling last year's Papal Visit and Pope Francis' designation of this year as The Year of Mercy by celebrating this as a Week of Mercy.

Schools throughout the Archdiocese will choose a work of mercy to focus on.  We will focus on the corporal work of mercy to Clothe the Naked.

Donations of used clothing items and shoes will be accepted throughout the week. Collection bins will be placed in the main hallways on both sides of the school building.

Contact Mrs. Honyara for more information [email protected].
