Message from Tim Lam

When I faced the daunting task of completing an expansion and renovation in six weeks, I welcomed the challenge with open arms. I immediately included the TISOH team to develop strategies in the building process, implement timelines for the expansion and organizing moves and construction while classes were in session. I am so proud of the success achieved and am overwhelmed with thoughts of joy when I first saw the completed product. I realized that teamwork is essential in every venture and working together with common goals creates a comradery that is unbreakable.

I am also so proud of our students this semester. It is not uncommon for students to gather in the lounge and work together as they brainstorm ideas for their projects. Our externship partners have relayed positive feedback about how our students work together in their goals. Our instructors and guest speakers have truly enjoyed the interactive discussions and group activities to bring the classes together.

I encourage each of our students to continue working in teams. As the old saying goes "There is no I in team".  The everlasting bonds created have made TISOH into the transformative experience we have always hoped to achieve.

Sincerely,

TISOH Executive Director

All about that NACE

Distinguished attendees included NACE National President Linwood Campbell, Foundation President Gary Baumann, Executive Director Bonnie Fedchock, Secretary/Treasurer Walt Nemeth, Trustee Josette Murai and our own Executive Director Tim Lam as Vice President/President Elect for the Foundation. The visitors also took time to speak to the CMEP and WCD classes about the value of networking and association membership.

The LEGENDS have arrived

Two Convention Industry Council Hall of Leaders recipients were recently at TISOH to meet with the school administrators. As a Human Resources professional, I am often asked questions about workplace morale, stagnation and career progression. The key to all of the questions is to remain positive and create a work experience that you will enjoy to assist in moving forward towards your goals.

3 WAYS to create a positive work experience

#1

Treat every opportunity as an experience to learn more about the industry

No matter how big or small a task is, put your greatest effort in to it with the intention to educate yourself about how to successfully complete your job duties. Saying yes is much more effective than saying no. In addition, saying yes may open the doors that you never knew were available to you.

--------------------------------------------------------

#2

Be happy

Smiling and making the best out of every situation is imperative to creating your legacy of being approachable and willing to learn and adapt to all challenges that may occur in the workplace.

--------------------------------------------------------

#3

Be a leader

Regardless of your position, you can lead your team to success by encouraging each team member to stay focused on the overall goals. Help others at all times and enjoy the learning opportunity. Being a leader in any role can also expose you to the positive rewards that are waiting for you.
