2009 for Pinot noir is being hailed by the Wine Spectator as one of the greatest vintages ever. Anderson Valley 2009 Pinot's getting 97pts and Sonoma 2009's getting 99 pts. This is the highest ratings Cali Pinot vintages have ever got. The press are calling these Pinot's the next Sea Smoke.  Rich Savoy has been farming Pinot Noir north of Philo in the Anderson Valley for 20 years.  We vinify five clones of Pinot Noir (Calera, Dijon 113,115, Martini 13 and Pommard) separately and select only the best barrels for our single vineyard wine. Our 2009 Benovia Savoy Pinot Noir is deeply colored with complex blackberry, mineral and orange peel notes.It tends to be earthier than its counterparts from the Russian River or Sonoma Coast.  This massively structured wine will evolve more slowly than our other Pinots, and will offer greater reward with six to eight years of patience.

Our 2009 Benovia La Pommeraie Pinot Noir is handcrafted with fruit sourced from a Martinelli Family vineyard in the Russian River Valley which at one time was a spectacular apple orchard along the Laguna Ridge. Aptly christened "La Pommeraie" (French for apple orchard), our newest Pinot Noir pays homage to the Martinelli's site and its rich history. The vines are meticulously farmed and planted to Dijon Pinot Noir clones 777 & 828. This extraordinary single-vineyard Pinot Noir gives an immediate impression of depth and concentration in the glass, with remarkably explosive aromas of boysenberry and black cherry. The palate is viscous and rich, yet light on its feet, with fine polished tannins and an exceptionally balanced acidity. Although delicious upon release, we expect this wine to improve with cellaring for six to eight years from vintage date.

 

 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard 2009:    

"Vivid ruby.A potent bouquet evokes cherry-cola, black raspberry, vanilla bean and smoky Indian spices.Spice and herb-accented dark berry flavors show impressive intensity and depth, with complicating notes of anise, black tea and bitter chocolate.Gains energy in the glass and picks up a peppery note that adds cut to the very long, penetrating finish. This is built to age." 93pts Tanzer     

Pinot Noir La Pommeraie 2009 :         

"Bright violet.Highly fragrant, vibrant aromas of black raspberry, cherry-cola, rose oil and Indian spices.Densely packed, firm and juicy, with intense red and dark berry flavors given spine by zesty acidity.  Shows real intensity but carries no excess weight; in fact, this is quite lithe.Picks up a subtly smoky note with air and finishes with outstanding clarity and spicy persistence." 93pts Tanzer
