A look back with our Annual Report
October 2016

The only time you should ever look back is to see how far you've come.

At Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Mayoral Academy, we believe it's important to reflect. Some of the best and most valuable lessons you can learn come from celebrating what has worked and examining what did not. I am happy to share that we have published our third  annual report to do just this. Taking a step back to review everything from our growth and academic results to special events and staff achievements from the last year highlighted one underlying theme for our team:

Everyone at BVP believes wholeheartedly that every child can learn, grow, dream, lead, inspire, dance, succeed, persevere, innovate, and, in the end, achieve.

Given this, the theme of this year's report is ALL KIDS . In addition to our report being a reflection on the past year, it is also a reflection on how our work has remained focused on our vision since our founding. With all that we do, we aspire to be a proof-point for what is possible for public education in Rhode Island. While we have held our focus, there have been hurdles along the way. As we closed on the 2015-16 school year our local and state funding was cut by almost $1 million dollars .

As we step forward, proud of how far we've come and poised to go even further, we are even more grateful for your support. Earlier this week we launched our 2016 Annual Appeal. Our goal for this year's fund is to raise $100,000. Your gift will have a direct impact on the high quality, high performing programs BVP families expectNow more than ever, we would be honored to have your help. You can choose to make a one-time gift or a recurring one. Please make your donation here .

On behalf of our board and staff, thank you for your ongoing support. A special thank you to all of our partners and donors listed in this year's annual report. We could not do this work alone.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Chiappetta
Executive Director

AnnualReportOur Annual Report
We are excited to share our third annual report, a summary of BVP's work over the last academic year. Please join us as we reflect on the 2015-16 school year.
Middle School 1 is Commended - Again!
Earlier this month, the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) announced that Blackstone Valley Prep Middle School 1 (MS1) and twenty-one other schools across the state are Commended!

This announcement follows last February's news that both BVP High School and Elementary School 2 received the same designation. Middle School 1 is one of only two high poverty schools on the 2016 list and was also previously commended for the 2011-2012 school year.
PARCC2015-2016 PARCC Results
The statewide results of the 2016 PARCC Assessment, administered last spring at the end of the 2015-2016 academic year, shows BVP scholar achievement as some of the highest in the state. In addition, BVP is one of only three schools serving a majority of low-income students that exceeded the state averages in both English Language Arts (ELA) and math. BVP is also the only majority low-income school (as well as school with a majority of students of color) who beat the state averages by 10+ points in ELA and math.
