Growing A Few Good Men
Sports Commentator and Former Philadelphia Eagle Gary Cobb (top center) and AFGM Co-Founder Mike McBride (bottom right) shared the importance of character in achieving sustained success, emphasizing the significance of decision-making and humility.
A Few Good Men (AFGM) hosted its 2016 Football Season Kick-off on Sunday, August 14th at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Camden, New Jersey, attracting  hundreds  of local high school football players who convened to "gear-up" to become a good man.

The event featured remarks by Sports Commentator and Former Philadelphia Eagle Gary Cobb, among other leaders, followed by a BBQ and challenge for players, their coaches and parents, to promote the core values of character, team work, community service and academic excellence.

Launched in 2012 by Veteran South Jersey High School Football Coach Mike McBride and Pastor Kevin C. Brown of The Perfecting Church, AFGM is a community engagement of Loving Our Cities with a mission to make the Garden State famous for growing a crop of character-filled, student athletes in response to what AFGM Co-Founders McBride and Brown perceive as a growing character crisis and leadership void in the world.

Volunteers of A Few Good Men "gear-up" to groom the next generation of men.

Now in its fourth year, AFGM has grown tremendously under the leadership of Curtis Myers and a team of volunteers who annually team up with high school football programs throughout South Jersey to provide mentoring and leadership training.   Participating schools include Winslow Township, Timber Creek, Deptford, Woodrow Wilson, Rancocas Valley, Burlington Township, Willingboro, Highland, Eastern, Camden, and Pitman High Schools, with players from these programs, along with their coaches and parents, benefiting from a series of sessions on character, leadership, community service and teamwork along with NFL Player Engagement resources on academic success and leadership.  Parents also participated in an NCAA eligibility and college admission session.

"The core  values promoted by AFGM  are critical in today's challenging world, both on and off the field," said Myers.  "This unique partnership affords us the privilege of grooming tomorrow's leaders, today, by  celebrating character in our influential high school student-athletes while creating the momentum of positive peer pressure to make our schools, communities and the world a better place."

By Pastor Kevin C. Brown
August 26, 2016
