UN-REDD PROGRAMME NEWS
The UN-REDD Programme hosted a side event at COP22 in Marrakesh for South-South exchange between REDD+ countries on reference levels and results reporting.
An MOU signed between Côte d'Ivoire and Costa Rica at COP22 is intended to provide a framework for cooperation and facilitate collaboration in areas of climate change and forestry, with the ultimate goal of enhancing, strengthening and accelerating their respective REDD+ processes. 
UNDP hosted and moderated an event at COP22 in which the government of Papua New Guinea presented two key components of its national REDD+ architecture to the international community.
The First International Research Symposium on Valuation of Forest Ecosystems and their Services was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo Sri Lanka on 18 October 2016.
The Viet Nam University of Forestry officially launched a pilot of REDD+ as an elective course in its Master's programme on Forestry and Forest Management during an event on 21 October 2016. The launch of the pilot is a result of cooperation between the University and the UN-REDD Viet Nam Phase II Programme.
A new study developed with support from the UN-REDD Programme, 'The Landscape of REDD+ Aligned Finance in Côte d'Ivoire', looks at public finance of activities that impacted on land use in 2015 and that are therefore considered relevant in the context of Côte d'Ivoire's National REDD+ Strategy. 
To coincide with the onset of winter snow in Mongolia, which places severe pressure on communities living in the rural areas,the REDD+ Mongolia Programme has undertaken a number of media and communication events aimed at highlighting the importance of forests in addressing climate change.
COUNTRY REDD+ ADVANCES 
In a significant step forward for Cambodia's REDD+ process, the Cambodia REDD+ Technical Team finalized its Initial FRL and submitted it to the UNFCCC in early November 2016.
El 23 de noviembre de 2016, el Ministerio del Ambiente del Ecuador presentó oficialmente su Plan de Acción REDD+: Bosques para el Buen Vivir, el cual se convierte en la principal estrategia del país para responder a los retos del cambio climático a través de la conservación de los bosques.
En octubre de 2016, Chile se sumó a la lista de países pioneros de Latinoamérica en finalizar y hacer oficiales sus Estrategias Nacionales y/o Planes de Acción REDD+.
Nigeria's National REDD+ Framework Strategy and first Sub-national Strategy near completion
REDD+ work in Nigeria has received a major boost as the first sub-national level Strategy for Cross River State and National REDD+ Framework Strategy near completion.
With support from the UN-REDD Viet Nam Phase II Programme, the Viet Nam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a High-level Dialogue on REDD+ in Ha Noi, Viet Nam, on 18 November 2016.
Madagascar holds National REDD+ Academy, high participation from all sectors
Madagascar's National REDD+ Academy  took place in Antananarivo from 31 October to 4 November, 2016. 
Through the development of a National Satellite Land Monitoring System portal, Suriname aims to provide forest and land cover change monitoring information to the broader public and to improve data sharing and collaboration between partner institutions.
Mongolia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the national UN-REDD Programme team conducted a consultation meeting on 1 November in Ulaanbantaar to establish a CSO forum to support the development
of a National Forest and Climate Change Strategy.

A UN-REDD Programme supported workshop on 'Land Use, Land use Change, and Forest Monitoring with Collect Earth' trained thirty-six staff from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry in new skills in forest monitoring.
A series of multi-day Expert Training Events in Papua New Guinea have helped key stakeholders increase their understanding of
REDD+ and created a cross-sectoral core of
REDD+ experts in the country.

A stakeholder consultation workshop on agricultural mapping was held in Port Moresby on 4 November 2016 to present the results of a study that assessed current extent of agriculture in five provinces, and estimated future scenarios for agricultural expansion.
The Myanmar REDD+ Programme recently developed a stakeholder consultation and participation plan in order to identify key institutional stakeholders and how they should be engaged in the upcoming development of National REDD+ Strategy, as well as its implementation in the near future.
A two-week hands-on training on Open Foris Collect Earth was provided in Nay Pyi Taw, from 7 - 18 November 2016.
With financial and technical support from the UN-REDD Programme in Mongolia, a workshop was conducted on 17 November to review the use of Collect Earth as a tool for measurement of forest cover change.
The REDD+ Office Team in Myanmar has initiated a process to analyze key awareness raising needs and existing materials, so as to identify gaps and prioritize the production of new resources.
El 28 de octubre se reunieron en Bogotá más de 15 representantes de las autoridades regionales encargadas de la gobernanza forestal y el cuidado de los parques naturales de los principales centros de deforestación de las regiones de Amazonía, Pacífico y Andina.
Técnicos de diez países de Latinoamérica participaron en taller de evaluación de exactitud de mapas temáticos en el marco de la Estrategia Mesoamericana de Sustentabilidad Ambiental.

Uganda's National REDD+ Academy
This video showcases Africa's first National REDD+ Academy, held in Uganda from from 11-15 July, 2016. In an innovative capacity-building feature of this national-level event, national experts presented alongside global and regional REDD+ advisors on each of the Academy's 12 modules.
Navigating the REDD+ Rule Book for Results-based Finance: Lessons learned in Asia and the Pacific
This video highlights lessons learned from Asia-Pacific on elements of the Warsaw Framework for REDD+, captured through South-South knowledge exchanges held in 2015-16.
