The REDD+ programme, which has been underway since 2013, has undertaken in-depth studies and analysis of data on the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation. The objective is to prepare a comprehensive strategy by 2017 which will help realise Sri Lanka's forest conservation goals.

'Green-Pakistan' plan being devised to promote forestry: Zahid

India today submitted its first Biennial Update Report (BUR) today to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) reporting that it emitted 2,136.84 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases (GHG) in 2010 with the energy sector being the top contributor at 71 per cent. About 12 per cent of emissions were offset by carbon sink action of forests and croplands, considering which the national GHG emissions are arrived at a total of 1,884.31 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, a statement issued by the Ministry of Environment & Forests today said.  Read more.
  


Mikoko Pamoja community based organization members at Gazi and Makongeni in Msambweni Kwale plant mangrove plants at the shores of Indian ocean as they conserve the plant to trap carbon dioxide for climate change mitigation.They earn Sh1 million annually for the last two years for planting and conserving mangrove.    Read more.

Tan importante como el análisis científico y el uso de tecnología de punta para identificar los factores que causan la deforestación y la degradación, es el conocimiento que poseen los grupos humanos que habitan esos territorios; esas comunidades se constituyen en aliados estratégicos a la hora de entender el contexto y las causas del problema, y su conocimiento definitivamente alimenta las metodologías que se diseñan en el nivel nacional para estudiar este fenómeno.

REDD+ Day at the Rio Conventions Pavilion brought together panelists from eight UN-REDD Programme partner countries
REDD+ day at UNFCCC COP21 included discussions on country approaches to safeguards, and the development of safeguards information systems (SIS), informed by examples from Costa Rica, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, Peru and Zambia. This highlighted UN-REDD Programme support for processes such as stakeholder consultation, technical assessments, and SIS design that ensures REDD+ actions, among other things, respect the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.
Enter the Global Forest Resources Assessment 2015 app competition : deadline extended to 15 April 2016
The FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2015 app competition challenges entrants to develop a mobile application that can help better manage our forest resources and improve understanding of forests worldwide.  First prize is a US$ 2,000 paid assignment with FAO's Forestry Department, while up to three runners-up will receive a tablet. UNFCCC REDD+ GUIDELINES
The aim of the roadmap is to provide direction to the Malawi REDD+ Programme for capacity development and more importantly, to serve as a guide or framework for the country's NFMS.

Countries share views and progress on forest reference levels 
Last month in Paris, representatives from Cambodia, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo and Zambia presented the status of their draft FREL/FRL submission to the UNFCCC and shared common challenges.

A two-day  National REDD+ Lessons Learned and Closing Workshop  was organized in Papua New Guinea to review progress achieved towards REDD+ readiness, and to take stock of what is left to be done before advancing to REDD+ implementation.

Mongolia has conducted two important REDD+ studies: identifying key drivers of forest cover change, as well as the underlying causes of these drivers through socio-political, economic, technological and ecological perspectives; and an assessment of Mongolia's current policy, legal and institutional framework against the internationally agreed requirements for operationalizing REDD+

This animated video compiles the main achievements and lessons learned during the development of Ecuador's National Joint Programme from 2012-2015 with the support of UN-REDD and under the leadership of Ecuador's Ministry of Environment.


Escuchando al bosque en Panamá: Proceso de escucha activa del Programa ONU-REDD - canal mujeres 
Durante 2014 y 2015 Panamá llevó a cabo un proceso de escucha activa sobre la situación del bosque y los retos para reducir las emisiones causadas por la deforestación y degradación con miras a la elaboración participativa de la Estrategia Nacional REDD+. El diálogo incluyó cinco grupos de actores relevantes en el país, entre ellos un canal específico para mujeres. Este video recoge las voces y opiniones de las mujeres de comunidades indígenas, afrodescendientes y campesinas de Panamá.


Listening to the forest in Panama: UN-REDD Programme active listening process - women's channel ( Spanish with English subtitles)
During 2014 and 2015 Panama carried out an "active listening" process with key stakeholders on the situation of the forest and the challenges to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation looking at the participatory construction of Panama's National REDD+ Strategy. The dialogue included several key stakeholder groups; including a specific channel for women. This video shows the voices and opinions of women from indigenous, afro-descendant and campesino communities of Panama.



Webcast: Joint FCPF/UN-REDD Programme 2015 Global REDD+ Knowledge Exchange
