Theme for 2015-2016~
THINK!  This is our theme again for 2015-2016.  THINK stands for Trustworthy, Honesty, Integrity, Non-violent, Kindness.  We will emphasize and recognize our students when they commit to this belief.  We want our students to make the most of each day by giving their best, seeking ways to help our school be a better place, always striving to improve, and entering the building each day with a great attitude.  Please encourage your children to THINK each day before they arrive at school.

Health Policy / Allergies / Snacks in School~
Our number one priority is to ensure the safety of all of our children.  With roughly 600 BCSC students having a known food allergy (300 of which are categorized as "severe"), and 25% of students finding out they have a food allergy for the first time at school, the consequences of having a student with an allergic reaction are too great. Food being brought in from the outside will be limited to water and fresh fruit. All food that is served during the school day, including morning / afternoon classroom snacks, can be water and fresh fruit or must be ordered through food services to ensure proper monitoring of labels and manufacturers.  These rules only apply to foods that we are providing for students and that are going to be eaten in the classroom.  These rules do not apply to lunches brought from home.  They are consumed in the cafeteria where known allergy kids are protected and the furniture is cleaned according to food safety guidelines. Hand washing is also closely monitored during lunch periods, allowing us to better focus on student safety in that environment.  So, if your child brings their lunch from home, they may continue doing so.  Claudia Simion, our CafĂ© manager, is available to work with parents and teachers interested in purchasing snacks for the classroom.  We appreciate your understanding.

Volunteer/Criminal Background Check Policy~
In an effort to keep our school safe, all volunteers much complete a volunteer application form/criminal background check request and be approved as a volunteer prior to volunteering. The form must be completed at least two (2) weeks prior to the event in which the volunteer chooses to participate in.

Volunteer background checks are completed by the Human Resource Department using the State of Indiana Police criminal records database and the sex offender database.

Volunteer criminal background checks are valid for 3 years. After 3 years volunteers will be required to complete a new volunteer request form and the status as a volunteer will be reconsidered.

Volunteer criminal background checks are required for:
-attending or assisting with class parties
-assisting school staff in the classroom or school building
-having lunch at school building with a student
