Principal's Message ~ Mr. Chambers

Dear Reagan Parents,

It's getting darker.  The chill is in the air.  The dimly lit parking lot offers little shelter from the vastness of the darkness that sits outside our door 4 car drop-off location.  There are no staff present and you need to get to work!  What should you do?

As a parent that still uses before and after school care to ensure that I can arrive at work on time, I totally understand the battle of time and caring for our own kids.  For those that choose to drive your kids to school, which I wish I could do, please be thinking about these simple, but very important, directions.

1.    No children should be left unattended until a Reagan staff member is present to welcome the students to school.  My staff has been instructed to be outside at 8:25.  No child should be dropped off and left outside of school unless my staff is present.
2.    Students will be given access to the door 4 vestibule from 8:25-8:30.  The first bell rings at 8:30 and students will be permitted to enter the building at that time to get breakfast or to go directly to class.  In comparison, some BCSC schools do not allow drop-off until the first bell rings at 8:30.
3.    If there is a problem with the carline, please contact me.  I can be reached at 852-1060.  If I'm not immediately available, I will respond.  All principals are assigned to bus lot duty at the beginning and end of each day.  I don't have the luxury of being outside at the carline at arrival to support the process.

Please, Reagan families, do not drop-off your child prior to my staff being present.  On two occasions in the past two weeks, students were left unattended as early as 8:15.  For most, this message does not apply to you and I am so grateful that you wait patiently.  Thank you!  For some, if this continues to be an issue, individual families may be contacted by our Brownsburg School Police Officer, Sam Leahy.  I want all of our students to be safe.

Thanks, as always, for your support!  Have a wonderful Fall Break!

Mr. Chambers

Body Safety Parent Preview Night~
Tuesday, November 1 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at Eagle Elementary (cafeteria)
Parents are invited to attend this meeting to learn about the age-appropriate lessons that will be taught to your children this school year by the elementary school counselors. Unfortunately, recent counts show that sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe. As a result, our children need to be taught assertiveness and self-protection skills to prevent such tragedies. This program is presented in a non-threatening, informative way.
Parents, please join us so that you can see the videos and hear about the lessons that will be presented at each grade level. For the lessons we will be using the same videos as last year for all grades with the exception of 4th grade.  A new video will be used this year.

Body and Personal Safety Program ~
The school counselor, Mrs. Benner will be conducting body and personal safety lessons with students in grades K-5 the week of December 5.  Unfortunately, sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe.  Through these lessons, we will provide children the opportunity to learn assertive self-protection skills, differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate touches, and identify people to whom they can go for help. Students in grades K - 3 will learn the appropriate names of male and female private body parts, and anatomically correct dolls will be shown.  All students will participate in the program.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Benner or Mr. Chambers.
Parents, please check the Flyer Folder for important information regarding body safety and how to discuss this topic with your child.

Clinic News ~
Reminders from the Clinic Nurse...

APPROPRIATE ATTIRE FOR RECESS
*As the Autumn weather has arrived, please send your students to school with the appropriate cool weather clothing (long pants, socks, jackets, sweatshirts) for recess. Mornings at the bus stop are often cold while later it can be quite warm at recess. Dressing in layers will enable your child to be warm and comfortable with our ever-changing temperatures.

COLD and FLU SEASON
*Cold and flu season is around the corner! Encourage students to wash their hands frequently and to cover their coughs/sneezes. To help prevent the spread of common viruses, please keep your student home when they have a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Please refer to Elementary School Student Handbook regarding returning to school after illness "... student must be fever free without use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours in order to return to school.  A student must also be free of vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours in order to return to school...."

HABITS for GOOD HEALTH
* Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze-throw the tissue away after you use it. If you do not have a tissue, cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow.
* Wash your hands often with soap and water especially after you cough or sneeze. If you are not near water, use an alcohol based hand cleaner.
* Stay away as much as you can from people who are sick.
* If you or your child gets the flu, stay home from work or school. Do not go near other people so that you don't make them sick too.
* Try not to touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs often spread this way.
